APPLIANCE FUNCTION
INDICATING THE PRESENCE OF GAS
The slits on the side of the lamp allow contact between the gas
sensor and the surrounding environment.
The lamp switch has two positions, which allow the user to use the
appliance either as a gas detector, an emergency light (with auto-
matic ignition) or both.
When the GREEN LED is lit the lamp is correctly connected to the
mains supply and the battery charger is functioning.
The gas detector function is enabled approximately 1 minute
after the appliance has been connected to the mains supply.
When the sensor detects the presence of gas, the RED LED on the
parabolic element will light and a loud, intermittent acoustic signal
will sound.
Alarm conditions will persist while gas is present.
AUTOMATIC IGNITION IN THE EVENT OF A BLACKOUT
In order for Beghelli Salvalavita to switch on in the event of a
blackout, the appliance must be connected to the mains supply by
the supply cable and the switch must be in position (I).
In the event of a blackout, the lamp will remain enabled until the
battery charge runs out (see Specifications).
When the electricity supply is restored the appliance will automati-
cally switch off and switch to battery recharging mode.
IMPORTANT
Ensure that you have purchased the correct lamp for the type of
gas used (Methane or LPG).
The type of gas that the lamp has been designed to detect is
marked on the box and also on the sliding hatch that houses the
mains cable.
Fill in the product start label.
POSITIONING THE DEVICE FOR USE AS A GAS DETECTOR
CAUTION: Failure to position the appliance as indicated may result
in incorrect function.
The appliance must be installed by qualified personnel.
The detector should be fixed in the same room as the gas-fed
appliance or heating appliance.
Beghelli Salvalavita for
METHANE GAS:
The appliance should be
fixed to the wall at a distance
of not more than 30 cm from
the ceiling (Fig. 2), as metha-
ne gas is lighter than air and
therefore tends to rise.
The appliance must be fixed
above the level of windows or
doors.
Beghelli Salvalavita for LPG
GAS:
Being heavier than air, LPG
tends to sink and the applian-
ce should therefore be posi-
tioned at approximately 10
cm from the floor (Fig. 3) in a
position that is unhampered
by obstacles to air movement
such as furniture.

SUPPLIED
- The Beghelli Salvalavita should be installed in a vertical position
in the room in which the gas is used.
The appliance must not be positioned more than 4 metres or less
than one metre from the supposed gas source (burner, boiler, etc.).
- No obstacles to gas flow to the detector such as partitions,
columns, furniture, doors, joists, etc. should be present between
the appliance and the gas source.
The appliance should not be installed near windows or
extractor fans. It should be installed in a room where tempe-
rature is not lower than –10°C and not higher than 40°C and
where relative humidity is between 30% and 90%.
- In order to avoid false alarms or malfunctions, the appliance
should not be used in environments where spray cans or solvent-
based substances (acetone, ammonia, spirit, turpentine, nitro,
etc.) are in constant use; nor should it be installed in confined
spaces (inside cupboards, behind curtains, etc.).
- During routine cleaning operations, care should be taken not to
strike or damage the appliance by contact with solvents, insectici-
des, silicone-base sprays, muriatic acid, etc.
Prolonged exposure to high concentrations of such substances
may cause a gradual deterioration of the sensor.

OPERATIONAL TEST
Operations required for testing applian-
ce function prior to installation.
N.B.: the following operations should be
carried out while the appliance is con-
nected to the electricity supply.
- Wait at least 1 minute (time required
for the sensor to heat up).
- Take a common gas lighter to the slit
in the middle of the side of the lamp
and, without lighting the flame, release a
little gas (Fig. 6).
After approximately 40 seconds, the
detector will go into alarm mode, the
RED LED on the parabolic element will
light and the intermittent acoustic alarm
will sound until the concentration of the
gas drops.

N.B.: these operations provide indications on device function,
however they do not permit the user to test the intervention thre-
shold.
Users are recommended to test the function test every year.
In any case the sensor should be replaced every 4 years by quali-
fied personnel.
IMPORTANT: do not perform the test using gas taps as the
smell of gas does not mean that there is a sufficient quantity
of gas near the appliance to set the alarm on.
