UL325 INSTALLATION RECOMMENDATIONS
1.Install the gate operator only w hen:
a
.The operator is appropriate for the construction and the usage class of the gate.
b
.A ll o p e n in g s o f a h o riz o n ta l s lid e g a te a re g u a rd e d o r s c re e n e d fro m th e b o tto m o f th e g a te to a m in im u m o f 4 ' (1.2 m ) a b o v e th e g ro u n d
to prevent a 2-1/4 " (6 cm ) diam eter sphere from passing through the openings anyw here in the gate, and in that portion of the adjacent fence
that the gate covers in the open position.
c
.A ll exposed pinch points are elim inated or guarded, and guarding is supplied for exposed rollers.
2.The operator is intended for installation only on gates used for vehicles. Pedestrians m ust be supplied w ith a separate access opening. The
pedestrian access opening shall be designed to prom ote pedestrian usage. Locate the gate such that persons w ill not com e in contact w ith the
vehicular gate during the entire path of travel of the vehicular gate.
3
.The gate m ust be installed in a location so that enough clearance is supplied betw een the gate and adjacent structures w hen opening and
closing to reduce the risk of entrapm ent. Sw inging gates shall not open into public access areas.
4
.The gate m ust be properly installed and w ork freely in both directions prior to the installation of the gate operator.
5
.Controls intended for user activation m ust be located at least six feet (6 ') aw ay from any m oving part of the gate and w here the user is
prevented from reaching over, under, around or through the gate to operate the controls. O utdoor or easily accessible controls shall have a
security feature to prevent unauthorized use.
6
.The Stop and/or R eset (if provided separately) m ust be located in the line-of-sight of the gate. A ctivation of the reset control shall not cause
the operator to start.
7
.A m inim um of tw o (2) W A R N IN G SIG N S (supplied w ith the gate operator) shall be installed, one on each side of the gate w here easily
v is ib le .
8
.For a gate operator utilizing a non-contact sensor:
a
.R eference ow ners m anual regarding placem ent of non-contact sensor for each type of application.’
b
.Care shall be exercised to reduce the risk of nuisance tripping, such as w hen a vehicle trips the sensor w hile the gate is still m oving.
c
.O ne or m ore non-contact sensors shall be located w here the risk of entrapm ent or obstruction exists, such as the perim eter reachable by
a m o v in g g a te o r b a rrie r.
9
.For a gate operator utilizing a contact sensor such as an edge sensor:
a
.O ne or m ore contact sensors shall be located w here the risk of entrapm ent or obstruction exists, such as at the leading edge, trailing
edge and post m ounted both inside and outside of a vehicular horizontal slide gate.
b
.O ne or m ore contact sensors shall be located at the bottom edge of a vehicular vertical lift gate.
c
.A hard w ired contact sensor shall be located and its w iring arranged so the com m unication betw een the sensor and the gate operator is
not subject to m echanical dam age.
d
.A w ireless contact sensor such as the one that transm its radio frequency (R F) signals to the gate operator for entrapm ent protection
functions shall be located w here the transm ission of the signals are not obstructed or im peded by building structures, natural landscaping or
sim ilar obstruction. A w ireless contact sensor shall function under the intended end-use conditions.
e
.O ne or m ore contact sensors shall be located on the inside and outside leading edge of a sw ing gate. A dditionally, if the bottom edge of a
