Usage Features:
The KTD10RE percussion drill offers several features for versatile operation:
- Variable Speed Control: The tool is equipped with a variable speed switch (1) that allows the user to control the drilling speed by adjusting the pressure on the switch.
- Lock-on Button: For continuous operation, the lock-on button (2) can be pressed to maintain full speed without constant pressure on the trigger. This feature is only available at full speed when rotating forward.
- Forward/Reverse Switch: The forward/reverse switch (3) allows for easy selection of rotation direction. Pushing the switch to the left selects forward rotation for drilling and screwdriving, while pushing it to the right selects reverse rotation for loosening screws or freeing jammed drill bits. It is crucial not to change the rotation direction while the motor is still running.
- Keyed Chuck: The drill features a keyed chuck (4) for securely holding drill bits. To open the chuck, rotate the sleeve counter-clockwise. Insert the bit shank (6) into the chuck, then insert the chuck key (7) into each hole (8) on the side of the chuck and turn clockwise until tight.
- Chuck Removal and Refitting: To remove the chuck, open the chuck jaws as far as possible. Rotate the chuck retaining screw counter-clockwise, located in the chuck, using a screwdriver. Insert an Allen key into the chuck and strike it with a hammer as shown in the manual. Remove the Allen key. Rotate the chuck counter-clockwise to remove it. To refit the chuck, screw it onto the spindle and secure it with the chuck retaining screw.
- Mode Selector: The tool offers a mode selector (5) to switch between drilling modes. For concrete applications, the mode selector should be set to the hammer drill symbol (F). For steel and wood applications, it should be set to the drill symbol (E).
- Safety Precautions: Always wear safety glasses, dust masks, non-slip safety shoes, hard hats, and hearing protection to reduce personal injury. Avoid accidental starting by ensuring the switch is in the off position before plugging in. Remove adjustment keys or wrenches before turning on the power tool. Do not overreach; maintain proper footing and balance at all times. Dress properly, avoiding loose clothing or jewelry that could get caught in moving parts. If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and used properly. Use clamps or other practical ways to secure and support the workpiece to a stable platform. Always check for hidden wiring and pipes before drilling into walls, floors, or ceilings.
Maintenance Features:
The Black & Decker KTD10RE is designed for long-term operation with minimal maintenance. Regular care and cleaning are essential for satisfactory performance.
- Before Maintenance: Always switch off the tool and disconnect it from the power supply before performing any maintenance.
- Cleaning: Regularly clean the ventilation slots of the tool with a soft brush or dry cloth. Periodically wipe the motor housing with a damp cloth. Do not use any abrasive or solvent-based cleaners.
- Storage: When not in use, the tool should be stored in a dry, secure place, out of reach of children.
- Tool Condition: Keep the tool in good condition and clean for better and safer performance. Follow instructions for maintenance and accessory replacement. Keep drill bits and accessories in good, clean condition for better and safer performance.
- Authorized Service: The rotary drill should not be serviced by the user. Take the tool to an authorized BLACK & DECKER repair agent. Repairs should only be carried out by qualified technicians to avoid hazards to the user.
- Electrical Safety: The tool is double insulated, meaning it does not require an earth connection. Always check that the power supply corresponds to the voltage on the rating plate.
- Environmental Protection: The product should not be disposed of with ordinary household waste. When replacing the product or if it is no longer usable, it should be separated for recycling. Disposing of used products and packaging separately allows materials to be recycled and reused, helping to prevent environmental pollution and reduce the demand for raw materials. Local regulations may require electrical products to be disposed of separately at municipal waste sites or by the retailer when purchasing a new product.
