Workshop Manual
Smart Tachograph EFAS-4.10/4.11
Note Please take care not to inadvertently eject your workshop smart-card. If this should still happen, please mark
the event in the protocol.
The card that has jammed is ejected. Check the ejected card for contamination or mechanical damage. Also check if the card
slot is dirty or whether foreign objects are inside. Switch on the ignition and test the function of the suspect card slot by using
another suitable card.
Warning As a check of the card slot’s mechanical function, insert the card the wrong way round (with contact surfaces
to the front) because a defective card reader could damage the card.
If the card reader works properly with the card that you have inserted, then the card slot of the tachograph is functional and the
card ejected manually is defective. You can now reassemble the tachograph EFAS again by tightening the screws and sealing it.
If the card reader does not function with the card inserted by you, it means that the card reader is defective and the whole
tachograph must be replaced.
Close the base plate as described in the section 6.2.6.
Take care to insert the base plate at right angles under the locking hooks (with the guide slit in the center) at the front of the
device and rotate it downwards. Do not bend the front panel in the process. Retighten the screws of the base plate. Ensure that
you replace the device gasket in the front panel for protection against splashes. The indentations in the gasket face towards the
front cover and rest against the base plate completely. Punch the blank seal and seal the screw on the base plate.
11.3 Replacing the buer battery
For details see 6.2.6.
11.4 Repairs that cannot be carried out in the workshop
All repairs other than those described can only be carried out by the manufacturer. In these cases, replace the recording equip-
ment with a new tachograph EFAS and return the defective tachograph to the manufacturer’s service center or your dealer.
If you send your unit in for repair, please enclose a detailed description of the defect. Please include the following information:
y What was the nature of the malfunction?
y Which event and fault codes (EFT, DTC, service ID) were detected?
y How often was the malfunction observed and under which boundary conditions?
y In which vehicle (manufacturer, exact type designation and year of manufacture) was the controller installed or which
components were connected (type of the motion sensor, type of the instrument panel / E-tachometer, etc.)?
y What are the changes (parameters/calibration) that you have made to the device?
11.5 Decommissioning tachographs
A digital tachograph must be decommissioned if it has been damaged electrically or mechanically. When you decommission a
digital tachograph, please observe the following points.
y Download the data stored in the device
y Archive these data
y Prepare documentation regarding the decommissioning
y Attestation that data could not be downloaded, if applicable
y Environmentally friendly disposal in accordance with the laws and regulations of your country. Observe the current
version of the EU Directive 2002/96/EC of 27.01.2003 on electrical and electronic equipment. Manufacturer’s warranty
