Overview

This document serves as a Quick Start & Safety Guide for Bosch dishwashers, specifically covering models SHPM65****, SHP865****, SHXM65****, SHXM63****, and SHX863****. It provides essential information for operating the appliance, ensuring user safety, and maintaining optimal performance.

Function Description

The Bosch dishwasher is designed for washing household dishware and kitchenware that are rated as dishwasher safe. It offers various wash cycles and options to accommodate different levels of dirt and types of items, ensuring efficient cleaning and drying. The appliance is equipped with sensors that can detect soil levels, automatically adjusting cycle time and intensity for optimal results. It also features a rinse aid dispenser to enhance drying and shine, and a detergent dispenser for various detergent types.

Usage Features

Safety Instructions:

The guide emphasizes critical safety warnings and cautions. Users are advised to load sharp items (knives, skewers) pointing down to prevent injury. Caution is necessary when opening the door during or after a wash cycle due to hot water or steam. Children should be kept away from detergents, rinsing agents, and the dishwasher itself, especially when the door is open. The dishwasher must be electronically grounded and secured with mounting brackets to prevent tipping. It is crucial to use only detergents and rinsing agents recommended for dishwashers. The appliance is intended for use up to a maximum altitude of 13,000 ft (4,000 meters) above sea level.

Loading Tips for Optimal Cleaning:

The guide provides detailed instructions for loading different racks to ensure optimal wash performance.

  • Lower Rack: Ideal for plates, bowls (tilted down), pots, pans, and other large items (upside down).
  • Upper Rack: Suitable for small plates, glasses, and cups. It includes a cup shelf that also functions as stemware support.
  • 3rd Rack: Designed for cutlery and other small items.
  • Cutlery Basket: Used for organizing cutlery. Users are cautioned not to overcrowd dishes or block water spray, as this can reduce wash performance.

Adding Detergent:

The dishwasher supports detergent tabs, fresh powdered detergent, or liquid detergent. The dispenser lid should slide closed easily. Recommended detergent amounts are provided: 3 Tbsp. max, 1.75 Tbsp. (25 ml), or 1 Tbsp. (15 ml).

Adding Rinse Aid:

Rinse aid is essential for enhancing drying results and shine. Users should remove the bottle lid for easier pouring and avoid the air vent. The amount of rinse aid dispensed can be adjusted in the settings (see "Adjusting the Settings" below). Adjustments should be made if streaks remain on dishes (lower amount) or if dishes are not drying sufficiently (increase amount).

Cycles and Options:

The dishwasher offers a range of cycles and options, each tailored for specific needs:

  • Cycles:
    • Heavy: For baked-on/greasy dishes, using a longer cycle and higher temperature (e.g., baked-on lasagna casserole).
    • Auto: For not baked-on dishes, adjusts time and intensity automatically by soil sensing (e.g., everyday load).
    • Normal: For not baked-on dishes, a cycle to save energy and water (e.g., everyday load).
    • Speed60®: For fresh, not dried-on dishes, a 1-hour cycle including drying (e.g., everyday load).
    • Rinse: For fresh, not dried-on dishes, a quick rinse using less water than hand rinsing (e.g., everyday load, to use between cycles).
  • Options:
    • Delay: Delays the start of the cycle up to 24 hours.
    • Half Load: Reduces water consumption for light loads, mostly top rack items.
    • Delicate**: Reduces cycle length and temperature for glasses.
    • Sanitize: Increases cycle length and temperature for disinfection (e.g., cutting boards, bottles).
    • AutoAir®**: Energy-efficient option for drying, door opens at the end of the cycle for everyday dishes.
    • Extra Dry**: Raises temperature and extends drying time for everyday dishes.
    • SpeedPerfect®**: Saves time by shortening the cycle, increasing energy consumption for everyday dishes.
    • ExtraScrub®**: Increases pressure and temperature in the lower rack for intensive cleaning (perfect for pots and pans, no delicate dishes).
    • ** Depending on the model.

Starting Your Dishwasher:

  1. Press the On/Off button.
  2. Select a desired cycle and option.
  3. Press Start. A tip is provided: after pressing Start, the door must be shut within 4 seconds, otherwise the operation will be paused. If the door is open for more than 4 seconds, or there is any other cycle interruption, the Start button needs to be pressed again to prevent unintentional operation.

Adjusting the Settings:

The dishwasher allows users to customize various settings:

  • d-Intensive drying (d:00/off to d:01): Improves drying for glasses and plastic by increasing temperature and length.
  • r-Rinse Aid (r:00 to r:06): Dispenses the amount of rinse aid, affecting drying.
  • b-Beep at cycle end (b:00 to b:03): Adjusts the sound level of the signal beep at the end of the cycle or turns it off.
  • I-Infolight® (I:00 to I:01): Light projected on the floor to signal an active wash cycle. Can be set to on or off.
  • P-Auto power off (P:00 to P:02): Unit turns itself off after the cycle is complete, either after 1 minute (P:01) or after 2 hours (P:02).
  • o-Auto door open (o:00/off to o:01): Door automatically opens at the end of every cycle except rinse.

To adjust settings:

  1. Press On/Off. Hold button A and press Start until the display shows d:0x.
  2. Release both buttons. The LED for button A flashes, and the digital display shows the factory set value. Press A to choose the setting.
  3. Press buttons B or C (up or down) to change the setting.
  4. Press Start to save the setting.

Frequent Asked Questions (FAQs):

The guide addresses common issues:

  • Food left on dishes: Suggests checking for adequate clearance between dishes, ensuring spray arm is not blocked, and filter cleanliness. Recommends selecting an intensive cleaning cycle.
  • Long cycle time: Explains that sensors automatically increase cycle time for heavy soil and that the dishwasher heats incoming water if it's not hot enough.
  • E:XX error code: Indicates an error, such as E:22 for a blocked or dirty filter. Users are directed to the Use and Care Manual for a full list of error codes.

Maintenance Features

General Maintenance:

Surfaces should be cleaned with a damp cloth and mild soap. Abrasives, bleach-based cleaners, stainless steel cleaner on black stainless or anti-fingerprint surfaces, harsh chemicals, bleach-based wipes, abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or abrasive cloths/paper towels should not be used on exterior door panels. Steam cleaning products are also prohibited.

Filter Cleaning:

The filter system should be cleaned 3-12 times a year, depending on usage.

  1. Unscrew the Large Object Trap and remove the entire filter system.
  2. Remove the micro-filter from the fine filter, then rinse both filters under running water with a soft brush.
  3. Reinstall the filter system in reverse sequence, aligning arrows.

Preventing Damage:

  • Detergent should never be poured into the salt dispenser, as it will destroy the water softening system.
  • To avoid oversudsing or clogging, the rinse aid dispenser should not be overfilled. Spills should be wiped up with a damp cloth.
  • Water should not remain in the dishwasher systems during extended periods of freezing temperatures, as freezing can damage the water fill valve and other components.
  • The dishwasher should not be loaded with paper products, plastic bags, packing materials, or anything other than normal, dishwasher-safe dishware and kitchenware.

End of Life Disposal:

When removing an old dishwasher from service or discarding it, the dishwasher door should be removed from the washing compartment.

Hydrogen Gas Warning:

Under certain conditions, hydrogen gas can be produced in a hot water system that has not been used for two weeks or more. Hydrogen gas is explosive. Before using the dishwasher, all hot water faucets connected to the system should be turned on for several minutes to release any accumulated hydrogen gas. Smoking or open flames should be avoided during this time. When cleaning the dishwasher with cleaning agents, all cookware, utensils, or foreign material must be removed from inside. Some cleaning agents are highly acidic or caustic alkaline, which can cause hydrogen gas to form if aluminum material is also inside the dishwasher tub. Users are directed to the Care and Maintenance section of the dishwasher Use and Care manual for proper cleaning instructions.
