Overview

This document describes the Braun Series 3 shaver, models 3030s, 3020s-B, 3020s-W, 3000s, and 3000BT. It serves as an instruction manual and includes a warranty. Users are advised to read it thoroughly before use and keep it for future reference to address any questions or issues that may arise.

Function Description

The Braun Series 3 shaver is designed for efficient and comfortable dry shaving. Its primary function is to cut facial hair smoothly and effectively, adapting to the contours of the face. For models 3020s-B, 3020s-W, and 3030s, a long hair trimmer (sideburn trimmer) is integrated for precise shaping of sideburns, moustaches, and beards. The 3000BT model offers enhanced versatility with a beard trimmer head and five comb attachments, allowing for precise trimming and styling of beards to various lengths.

The shaver operates on a rechargeable nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) battery, providing cordless operation. It can also be used while connected to the power supply if the battery is discharged. A charging indicator light (green) shows the battery's charge status, blinking during charging or operation, and remaining steadily lit when fully charged (if connected to power). A low-charge indicator light (red) flashes when the battery is running low, signaling that a recharge is needed soon.

The device features a flexible shaving foil system that automatically adjusts to facial contours, ensuring a close shave. The foil and cutter cassette is a replaceable part, designed to maintain optimal shaving performance over time. A replacement light for shaving parts (orange) indicates when the cassette should be replaced, typically after about 18 months of use, though this can vary depending on usage frequency.

Usage Features

Charging: The shaver should be charged within an ambient temperature range of 5°C to 35°C. For optimal battery life, it is recommended to charge the shaver continuously for 4 hours during its first charge or after several months of disuse. Subsequent full charges typically take about 1 hour. A full charge provides approximately 45 minutes of cordless shaving time, depending on beard growth. The maximum battery capacity is achieved after several charging/discharging cycles. A 5-minute quick charge is sufficient for a single shave. The shaver can be used while connected to the power outlet if the rechargeable batteries are discharged. It is crucial to ensure the power socket is completely dry before connecting the cord to prevent electrical hazards.

Dry Shaving: For best results, it is recommended to shave before washing the face, when the skin is dry. Hold the shaver at a right angle (90°) to the skin and stretch the skin while shaving against the direction of beard growth. This technique helps to lift hairs for a closer shave.

Long Hair Trimmer (Sideburn Trimmer): On models 3020s-B, 3020s-W, and 3030s, the long hair trimmer (2) can be activated by sliding it upwards. This feature is used for precise shaping of sideburns, moustaches, and beard lines.

Beard Trimmer Head with 5 Combs (3000BT only): To use the beard trimmer head, first turn off the shaver and remove the foil and cutter cassette. Attach the beard trimmer head, which can be set in either direction. Select one of the five comb attachments (10) based on the desired trimming length (indicated in mm on the comb). It is advisable to start with a longer comb and gradually switch to shorter ones to avoid over-trimming. Turn on the shaver and guide the trimmer against the direction of hair growth, holding the attachment with its angled edge against the beard.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning: Regular cleaning is essential for maintaining optimal shaving performance.

  • Under Running Water: For a quick clean, switch on the shaver (cordless) and rinse the shaver head under hot running water until all hair residues and foam are removed. Liquid soap without abrasive substances can be used. After rinsing, let the shaver run for a few more seconds to shake off excess water. Then, switch off the shaver, remove the foil and cutter cassette (1), and allow it to dry. If cleaning under water regularly, apply a drop of light machine oil (not included) onto the long hair trimmer (2) and the foil and cutter cassette (1) once a week.
  • With a Brush: Turn off the shaver. Remove the foil and cutter cassette and tap it gently on a flat surface to dislodge hair clippings. Use the provided brush to clean the inner area of the shaver head. Important: Do not use the brush on the foil and cutter cassette itself, as this can damage it.

Maintaining Shaving Performance: To ensure 100% shaving performance, the foil and cutter cassette (1) should be replaced when the replacement light for shaving parts (6) illuminates, typically after about 18 months. The replacement light will blink for the next 7 shaves as a reminder, after which the shaver will automatically reset the counter. After replacing the cassette, press and hold the on/off switch (3) for at least 5 seconds to manually reset the counter. The light will blink and then turn off, indicating a successful reset.

Preserving Batteries: To maintain the rechargeable batteries' optimum capacity, it is recommended to fully discharge the shaver by shaving approximately every 6 months. After complete discharge, recharge the shaver to full capacity.

Oiling the Trimmer Head (3000BT only): To keep the cutting system of the beard trimmer head working properly, apply light machine oil after each use.

Disposal: The product contains rechargeable nickel-metal hydride batteries, which are recyclable. When disposing of the product, first unplug it from the power outlet and operate it until the battery is completely discharged. Then, remove the rechargeable battery following the instructions provided in the manual. Ensure that the positive and negative terminals of the removed battery are not short-circuited. Dispose of the battery at a small secondary battery recycling facility. The product itself should not be disposed of with household waste but taken to electric waste collection points for recycling.
