Overview

This document describes the Oral-B PRO 1 electric toothbrush, designed to provide an effective and safe brushing experience. It includes instructions for use, maintenance, and safety precautions, ensuring proper operation and longevity of the device.

Function Description

The Oral-B PRO 1 is an electric toothbrush designed for daily oral hygiene. It features an oscillating-rotating brush head that effectively removes plaque and cleans teeth. The toothbrush offers multiple brushing modes to cater to different needs:

  • Daily Clean: A standard mode for everyday cleaning.
  • Sensitive: A gentle mode for sensitive teeth and gums, providing thorough cleaning with less intensity.
  • Whitening/Polishing: A mode designed for occasional or everyday use to remove surface stains and polish teeth.

The device is equipped with a Professional Timer that helps users brush for the dentist-recommended 2 minutes. It provides a short stuttering sound every 30 seconds to indicate when to move to the next quadrant of the mouth, ensuring even cleaning. A long stuttering sound signals the end of the 2-minute brushing session. The timer has a memory function, retaining the brushing time for 30 seconds if the toothbrush is briefly turned off.

A Pressure Sensor is integrated to protect teeth and gums from excessive force. If too much pressure is applied, the brush head's pulsation will stop, and the brushing sound will change, alerting the user to reduce pressure. This feature helps prevent damage to enamel and gum recession.

The toothbrush is rechargeable and designed for use in the bathroom, featuring a waterproof handle for safety and convenience.

Usage Features

First-time Use and Charging: Before first use, it is recommended to charge the toothbrush for approximately 30 minutes to enable a 2-minute brushing session. A full charge typically takes about 22 hours and provides up to 10 days of regular brushing (twice a day for 2 minutes). The charge indicator light (d) flashes green during charging and turns off when fully charged. If the battery is deeply discharged, the green light might not flash immediately, taking 10-15 minutes to start. If the rechargeable battery is low, the red charge indicator light (d) will flash for a few seconds when turning the toothbrush on/off. For daily use, the handle can be stored on the charger to maintain full power without overcharging. To preserve battery capacity, it is recommended to unplug the charging unit and fully discharge the handle at least every 6 months.

Brushing Technique:

  1. Apply Toothpaste: Wet the brush head and apply a small amount of toothpaste (about the size of a grain of rice). Any type of toothpaste can be used.
  2. Start Brushing: To avoid splashing, place the brush head in your mouth before turning on the toothbrush.
  3. Quadrant Brushing: Divide your mouth into four quadrants. Brush each quadrant evenly for 30 seconds, guided by the professional timer.
  4. Gentle Movement: Guide the brush head slowly from tooth to tooth, spending a few seconds on each tooth surface. Avoid pressing too hard; the brush should gently glide over the teeth.
  5. Coverage: Start by brushing the outer surfaces of your teeth, then move to the inner surfaces, and finally the chewing surfaces.
  6. Gumline Cleaning: For effective plaque removal between teeth and along the gumline, angle the brush head at 45 degrees towards the gumline. For front teeth, hold the brush vertically.

Brush Head Selection: Oral-B offers a variety of brush heads compatible with the PRO 1 handle, each designed for specific needs:

  • Brush head for kids (EB10S): Gentle bristles for milk teeth, specially designed for children's small mouths.
  • CrossAction brush head (EB50/EB50 BK): Advanced brush head with angled bristles for precise cleaning, lifting and powering away plaque.
  • Sensitive Clean brush head (EB60): Combines regular and ultrathin bristles for gentle cleaning of tooth surfaces and the gumline.
  • Precision Clean brush head (EB20): Cups each tooth with a curved bristle trim, reaching deep between teeth.
  • FlossAction brush head (EB25): Effectively cleans between teeth and along the gumline with soft rubber interdental wipers.
  • 3D White brush head (EB18): Features a polishing cup to remove surface stains for effective brightening. Not recommended for children under 12.

Most Oral-B brush heads feature INDICATOR® bristles that fade halfway within approximately 3 months, signaling the need for replacement. If bristles splay before fading, it may indicate excessive pressure.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning the Toothbrush: After each brushing session:

  1. Rinse Brush Head: With the handle switched on, rinse the brush head under running water.
  2. Remove Brush Head: Turn off the toothbrush and remove the brush head from the handle.
  3. Rinse Separately: Rinse both the brush head and the handle separately under running water.
  4. Dry: Wipe both parts dry before reassembling.
  5. Charger and Travel Case: Unplug the charger before cleaning. The brush head holder (f) is dishwasher-safe. The charger (e), charging stand (g/h), and travel case (i) should be cleaned with a damp cloth only. Store the clean and dry toothbrush and brush heads in the travel case.

Brush Head Replacement: Brush heads should be replaced approximately every 3 months, or sooner if the bristles become splayed or worn. Regular replacement ensures optimal cleaning performance.

Battery Disposal: At the end of the product's useful life, the rechargeable battery should be removed for proper disposal. Users should wear protective clothing (gloves, safety glasses) to avoid contact with leaking batteries. Ensure the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals are insulated (e.g., with tape) and place the battery in a plastic bag for disposal. The product should not be disassembled for any purpose other than battery disposal, as this will void the warranty.

Safety Precautions:

  • Always check the product and cord for damage before use. Do not use a damaged or non-functioning unit.
  • Never insert any object into the appliance's openings.
  • Do not place the charger in water or liquid, or store it where it can fall into a tub or sink. Unplug immediately if it falls into water.
  • When unplugging, always pull the power plug, not the cord. Do not touch the power plug with wet hands.
  • This product is for personal care and not intended for use on multiple patients in a dental practice.
  • Small parts may come off; keep out of reach of children.
  • Do not apply stickers on the handle.
  • If the toothbrush handle is dropped, replace the brush head even if no visible damage is present.
  • Do not chew or bite on the brush head.
  • Use only Oral-B replacement brush heads to ensure proper fit and cleaning performance. Using non-Oral-B brush heads may void the warranty and cannot guarantee the quality or long-term effect on handle wear.
