Overview

The Breeo Ash Shovel is a specialized tool designed for efficient and safe ash removal from Breeo fire pits, ensuring optimal airflow and a smokeless fire experience. This user guide provides comprehensive instructions on how to use the ash shovel, as well as important safety precautions and tips for building an ultimate fire.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Breeo Ash Shovel is to facilitate the removal of ashes from Breeo fire pits. Regular ash removal is crucial for maintaining proper airflow within the fire pit's X Airflow™ system, which is essential for achieving and sustaining a smokeless fire. The shovel is designed to scoop and lift ashes, making the cleaning process straightforward and effective.

Usage Features:

Ash Removal Process:

The manual outlines a three-step process for using the ash shovel:

  1. Wait until fire is out: Before using the ash shovel, it is imperative to ensure that the fire is completely out and both the fire pit and coals are entirely cool. The guide suggests that a good time to clean out ash is before the next burn, allowing sufficient time for cooling. This emphasizes safety and prevents potential burns or damage.

  2. Take your ash shovel and put it on the bottom on the fire pit near the outer edge of the fire pit and then push the ash toward the straight edges of the X Airflow system and around the circumference of the fire pit: This step describes the technique for gathering ashes. Users are instructed to place the shovel at the bottom of the fire pit, near the outer edge, and then systematically push the ash towards the center, specifically targeting the straight edges of the X Airflow system and along the fire pit's circumference. This method ensures that ashes are effectively collected from all areas of the fire pit.

  3. Lift ashes up and out: Once the ashes have been pushed towards the center, the user is instructed to lift them up and out of the fire pit. This process should be repeated several times on all four sides of the X Airflow system until all ashes have been cleared. This iterative approach ensures thorough cleaning and complete removal of ash, which is vital for maintaining the fire pit's performance.

Frequency of Cleaning:

The guide recommends cleaning out ashes after several burns or when the ash has almost reached the top of the X Airflow™ system in the bottom of the fire pit. This regular maintenance schedule is highlighted as important for maintaining airflow and consistently achieving a smokeless fire.

Safety Features and Precautions:

The manual places a strong emphasis on safety, dedicating a specific section titled "FOR YOUR SAFETY."

  • Always practice safety first: Users are reminded to always prioritize safety when using the Breeo ash shovel.
  • Precautions with open fire: When using the ash shovel, users should exercise the same precautions as they would with any open fire.
  • Never leave unattended: It is crucial never to leave the Breeo ash shovel unattended, especially around children and pets, to prevent accidents.
  • Sharp edges: The ash shovel may have sharp edges, so users should handle it with care to avoid injury.
  • Ensure cooling: Reiteration of the importance of ensuring the fire pit and coals are completely cool before using the ash shovel is provided. This is presented as a critical safety measure to prevent burns.

Maintenance Features:

While the manual primarily focuses on usage, the act of cleaning the fire pit with the ash shovel is itself a maintenance feature. Regular ash removal is presented as essential for the long-term performance of the fire pit, specifically for maintaining airflow and ensuring a smokeless fire. The warranty information also implies maintenance, as proper use and care are necessary to avoid voiding the warranty.

Additional Information:

The manual also includes a section on "HOW TO BUILD THE ULTIMATE FIRE," which, while not directly related to the ash shovel's function, provides context for the fire pit's operation and the importance of ash management. This section outlines five steps:

  1. CHOOSE YOUR FUEL: Select appropriate firestarter material (shredded newspaper, cardboard), dry, thinly split softwood for kindling, and dry, split hardwood for main fuel. Emphasizes fuel diameter (less than 4") and maximizing airflow.
  2. BUILD A LOG CABIN: Construct a log cabin structure using cord wood and kindling over the X Airflow™ system, filling the center with firestarter.
  3. LIGHT IT UP: Use a grill lighter or long match to light the firestarter at the bottom of the log cabin.
  4. FEED THE FLAMES: Gradually add cord wood, starting with smaller pieces and moving to larger ones, placing them towards the perimeter of the fire pit to ensure even spread.
  5. LET IT BURN OUT: Allow the fire to burn out on its own. Do not pour water on it and never leave it unattended. If leaving, cover with a spark screen and ensure no flammable items are nearby. This step reiterates the importance of cleaning ashes every 4-5 burns to maintain airflow and a smokeless fire.
