Do you have a question about the Breville Freestyle BR320 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Breville Freestyle Toaster, available in models BT320 and BT905, is an electronically controlled toaster designed for consistent toasting results.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Breville Freestyle Toaster is to toast bread, muffins, and crumpets. It offers electronic browning control, allowing users to select their desired level of toastiness from a range of settings (No. 1 - lightest to No. 6 - darkest). The toaster also includes specific functions for reheating toast and toasting frozen bread. Its electronic control system ensures that the toasting cycle automatically commences once the high lift lever is pressed down and clicks into place, and it automatically turns off and raises the toast when the desired color is achieved. The toasting process can be manually stopped at any time by pressing the CANCEL button.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Models: BT320 (2-slice) and BT905 (4-slice).
  • Power Requirement: Operates on a 230/240 volt power supply. The toaster will not lock down into the toast position unless plugged in and switched on at the power outlet.
  • Toasting Slots: Extra-wide, self-centring toasting slots that automatically adjust to accommodate both thick and thin bread slices.
  • Exterior: Cool touch exterior for enhanced safety during operation.
  • Control: Electronic browning control knob with settings from 1 (lightest) to 6 (darkest).
  • Special Functions: Dedicated buttons for FROZEN (toasting frozen bread), REHEAT (reheating toast without additional toasting), and CANCEL (stopping the toasting process).
  • Safety Features: High lift lever for safer removal of smaller items like muffins, raising them approximately 20mm above the starting position. The toaster is designed with a cool touch exterior to prevent burns. It also features tidy cord storage for convenience and safety.

Usage Features:

  1. Power On: Insert the power plug into a 230/240 volt power outlet and turn the power on. The toaster's electronic control requires it to be powered on for the high lift lever to engage.
  2. Loading: Place bread, muffins, or crumpets into the toasting slots. Ensure the bread is of the correct size and does not protrude above the opening or jam the carriage.
  3. Browning Selection: Select the desired browning setting using the control knob (No. 1 for lightest, No. 6 for darkest). For first-time use, setting No. 3 is suggested. Different types of bread (e.g., raisin toast, white light-textured, heavier rye) may require different settings.
  4. Start Toasting: Press the high lift lever down until it clicks into place. The toasting cycle will begin automatically, indicated by a toasting light.
  5. Stop Toasting: The toaster will automatically turn off and raise the toast when done. To stop the process at any time, press the CANCEL button.
  6. High Lift Function: For smaller items, lift the high lift lever an additional 20mm above the starting position for easier and safer removal.
  7. Toasting Frozen Bread: Place frozen bread in the slots, select the desired browning setting, lower the lever, then press the FROZEN button.
  8. Reheating Toast: Place toast in the slots, lower the lever, then press the REHEAT button. This function reheats toast without further browning.
  9. Safety Precautions:
    • Never operate the toaster near or below combustible materials (e.g., curtains).
    • Always supervise the appliance when in use, especially around young children.
    • Do not immerse the appliance or cord in water or any other liquid.
    • Do not leave the cord hanging or touching hot surfaces.
    • Allow the unit to cool down before storing or covering.
    • Always switch off power and remove the plug before moving or cleaning.
    • Regularly inspect the cord, plug, and appliance for damage. Cease use immediately if damaged and return for repair.
    • Never operate the toaster on its side.
    • Never add food substances to bread or muffins while toasting, as this can cause electrocution or fire.
    • Never attempt to extract jammed toast with a knife or other object, as this can damage the element or cause electrocution. If bread jams, switch off power, remove the plug, and carefully ease the bread out.

Maintenance Features:

  1. Crumb Tray Cleaning: The crumb tray should be cleaned regularly to prevent crumb accumulation.
    • Always switch off the power at the outlet and remove the plug before cleaning.
    • Slide out the removable crumb tray from under the toaster.
    • Empty the crumbs and replace the tray before using the toaster again.
    • Important: Do not use the toaster without the slide-out crumb tray in place. Do not allow crumbs to build up.
  2. Exterior Cleaning: Wipe the outside of the toaster with a slightly dampened cloth and polish with a soft, dry cloth.
  3. Interior Cleaning: To clean the interior, turn the toaster upside down over a sink and shake crumbs free.
