The Breville HotCup™ water dispenser is a convenient appliance designed to boil water in seconds, offering a quick and efficient solution for hot beverages and other needs. Its primary function is to dispense boiling water on demand, similar to a kettle but with the added convenience of single-serve dispensing and a permanent water reservoir.
Function Description:
The HotCup™ water dispenser operates by heating water from its integrated reservoir and dispensing it through a nozzle into a cup or container placed below. Unlike traditional kettles that boil an entire volume of water, this device heats only the amount of water required for a single serving (approximately 250ml), making it energy-efficient. Users can also stop the dispensing process at any time to get a custom amount of water. The appliance features a start button to initiate the boiling and dispensing process and a stop button to halt it. An illuminated water reservoir provides visibility of the water level.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Water Reservoir Capacity: The easy-fill water reservoir holds up to 1.7 litres of water.
- Dispensing Volume: Dispenses approximately 250ml of boiling water per cycle.
- Power Supply: The appliance connects to a mains supply socket. The plug should be ASTA approved to BS1363, and the fuse should be ASTA approved to BS1362. It uses a 13A fuse.
- Safety Features: Includes a re-set button, and safety warnings against overfilling, operating without water, and unattended use. It is designed with a heating chamber and a dispensing nozzle.
Usage Features:
- Ease of Filling: The lid lifts for easy filling of the water reservoir with cold water, ensuring the level is between the MIN and MAX markings.
- Adjustable Drip Tray: The magnetised drip tray plate allows for easy positioning of the drip tray to accommodate different cup sizes. For tall cups, the drip tray is placed in a lower position. For shorter cups, it can be turned upside down and hooked into a positioning slot, guided by the magnet.
- Drip Tray Cover: A stainless steel drip tray cover is provided.
- Illuminated Reservoir: The water reservoir is illuminated, making it easy to see the water level.
- Quick Operation: Boils water in seconds, providing instant hot water.
- Energy Efficiency: Heats only the required amount of water, reducing energy waste compared to boiling a full kettle.
- Safety Precautions:
- Always ensure hands are dry before handling the plug or switching on.
- Use on a stable, secure, dry, and level surface, away from hot surfaces.
- Never operate without a cup or container below the dispensing nozzle.
- Do not open the lid during the boiling cycle due to steam.
- Never allow the appliance to boil dry.
- The start button should not be accidentally operated, especially by children.
- If the start button cannot be pressed, check the re-set button at the rear and ensure the appliance has cooled slightly if it was recently used.
- The appliance is suitable for household use only and should not be used outdoors.
- Children aged 8 and above, and persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, can use the appliance if supervised and instructed on safe use and hazards. Children should not play with the appliance, and cleaning/maintenance should only be done by children over 8 under supervision.
- Keep the appliance and its cord out of reach of children under 8 years.
Maintenance Features:

- Never immerse any part of the appliance, power cord, or plug in water or any other liquid.
- Clean the exterior surface with a damp cloth and polish with a soft dry cloth.
- Do not use harsh abrasives, chemicals, oven cleaners, steel wool pads, or abrasive cleaners.
- Descaling:
- Regular descaling is crucial for efficient operation and to prevent malfunction or premature failure, especially in areas with hard water.
- Using a proprietary descaling product:
- Fill the reservoir to MAX, place an empty cup on the drip tray, and dispense water.
- Add a citric acid-based descaling product to the hot water in the cup and stir.
- Pour the mixture into the dispenser and close the lid.
- Place the empty cup on the drip tray and press the start button to dispense.
- Discard the water.
- Repeat steps 4-6 until the reservoir is empty.
- Refill with fresh water to MAX, place an empty cup, and dispense.
- Discard the water. Repeat steps 8-9 until the reservoir is empty to rinse thoroughly.
- Using vinegar or citric acid:
- Prepare a solution: 1 cup vinegar to 1 cup water, or 30g citric acid to 500ml water.
- Pour the solution into the dispenser, close the lid, and let it stand for 1 hour.
- Cycle the dispenser (as described in steps 4-6 for proprietary products) until the reservoir is empty.
- Fill with fresh water to MAX, place an empty cup, and dispense to rinse.
- Discard the water. Repeat steps 5-6 until the reservoir is empty.
Troubleshooting:
The manual provides solutions for common issues:
- Start button not pressing: Check the re-set button, ensure the appliance has cooled, check if it's plugged in and switched on, and check the fuse. Top up with cold water to speed cooling.
- Not dispensing a full cup: Descale the appliance if excessive scale is present.
- Excess steam, no boiling water: Fill water between MIN and MAX markings, then restart the boil cycle. Descale if excessive scale.
- 'Clunk' sound after dispensing: This is normal operation, indicating the internal valve operating.
- Water dripping from nozzle after boil cycle: Normal operation, due to residual water.
- Steam from behind nozzle: Normal operation, as steam is vented through designed vents.
The Breville HotCup™ water dispenser is designed for user convenience and safety, with clear instructions for operation and maintenance to ensure its longevity and performance.
