The OSR45 is an automatic telescopic overheight frame designed for use with Bromma spreaders and other spreader brands. Its primary function is to increase the operational speed and safety of cranes, reachstackers, and straddle carriers when handling flats and overheight containers. The OSR45 is a robust, fully mechanical device, meaning it does not require any power supply or hydraulics for its operation or attachment to a spreader. This mechanical design also contributes to its low maintenance requirements.

Function Description:

The OSR45 attaches under any parent spreader that has ISO standard base measure and is equipped with Bromma overheight frame lifting lugs (which can be ordered separately). The cargo is lifted by the spreader twistlocks, which effectively act as "extended legs" to the spreader. This method offers a much faster and safer handling of goods compared to traditional chain-based lifting. As the parent spreader telescopes to adjust for different container lengths, the OSR45 overheight frame telescopes simultaneously. This allows it to handle 20, 30, 40, and 45-foot containers with overheight cargo. The exact load combination capability depends on the design of the parent spreader.

Lifting Capacity: The OSR45 can handle 51 metric tons evenly loaded. According to EN13001 HC2, HD1, U6, Q3 (600,000 cycles), it can lift 51 metric tons ± 10% eccentrically loaded.

Cargo Space Limitation: The legs of the OSR45 may intrude into the cargo space. For a 40-foot frame (12192 mm), the internal length is 11630 mm. The width is 2438 mm (2030 mm between legs). The leg footprint is 275 mm.

Usage Features:

Telescopic Flexibility: The OSR45 offers a telescopic range from 20 to 45 feet, providing high flexibility for various container sizes.
Ease of Transport: As standard, the OSR45 is delivered in a demounted form, fitting into a 20-foot container. This significantly reduces transportation costs and facilitates easy on-site mounting. Optionally, it can be delivered fully assembled, though this would require delivery on a flatrack.
Quick Connection/Disconnection: The OSR45 frame can be quickly and automatically connected and disconnected to a dedicated storage fixture. This fixture can be placed on the ground or attached to the crane legs, and it can also be moved using the storage fixture itself or a forklift.
Mechanical Operation: Being fully mechanical, the OSR45 does not rely on external power supply or hydraulics, simplifying its operation and reducing potential points of failure.
Bromma ISO Floating Twistlocks: Equipped with Bromma ISO floating twistlocks, ensuring secure and reliable container handling.
Index Unit: An integrated index unit eliminates slack in the twistlock system, contributing to stable and precise operations.
Connecting the OSR45 to a Spreader:
- To pick up the overheight frame, the spreader needs to land on the overheight frame, and then the twistlock 'lock' plus 'unlock' motion is performed.
- During this twistlock movement, a cam wheel in the storage fixture rotates to release a mechanism that holds up a push rod in the overheight frame. The push rod is connected with a spring mechanism, which pushes it downwards, pulling up the latches to engage on the spreader lugs.
- When the push rod enters a hole in the frame, a plunger protrudes into a hole in the frame, ensuring the latch stays in its hooked-on position.
- The push rod gets an extra movement downward through a connected spring mechanism, and will be kept in position.
- As the twistlocks will now be unlocked, and the latches engaged on the spreader lugs, the overheight frame can be lifted from the storage fixture. The overheight frame will now only be hanging through the latches holding on to the spreader lugs.
- Once the overheight frame is lifted up from the storage fixture, a spring mechanism will push up the release mechanism in the storage fixture, allowing the overheight frame to function accordingly when the overheight frame needs to be disconnected from the spreader.
Disconnecting the OSR45 from a Spreader:
- When the operation with the OSR45 is completed, the overheight frame needs to be put back on the storage fixture in order to be disconnected from the spreader.
- The release mechanism in the storage fixture will push the push rods on the overheight frame upwards after landing the overheight frame on the storage fixture. A wedge connected to the push rod will release the plunger, ensuring the push rod can be fully moved upwards, unlocking the latches.
- This will release the overheight frame from the spreader, and the spreader can move away and operate on its own.
Lifting Cargo Under the OSR45:
- The overheight frame twistlocks act as extensions of the spreader twistlocks and will work in the same way as a normal spreader operation.
- When the twistlocks from the overheight frame are in locked position, the overheight frame will be held in the spreader by the twistlocks.
- The latches will still be locked, but there will be a clearance between the latches and the lugs, so the full weight of both overheight frame and load underneath will hang on the twistlocks instead of the lugs and latches.
- As a result, the spreader lugs will only be under load when the twistlocks are unlocked, and there is no load hanging under the overheight frame.
Storage Fixture Transportation: The storage fixture can be lifted by the spreader together with the overheight frame with the twistlocks in locked position. It can also be transported by a forklift truck or loaded to a trailer.

Corrosion Protection: The overheight frame is designed in accordance with EN13001 and is available in different colours (RAL2004 orange as standard) but will be delivered in RAL2004 (orange) as standard, unless specified otherwise. The surface conditioning includes sand-blasting and multiple layers of protective coatings (zinc epoxy, MIO pigmented, Polyurethane) to enhance durability and resistance to environmental factors.
Two Short Side Profiles: The OSR45 has two short side profiles and one telescopic 20 to 45 foot beam that are bolted together, simplifying assembly and potential part replacement.

Possible Accessories:

Leg Lengths: The OSR45 has the following available leg lengths: 1.80 m (standard), 2.25 m, 2.50 m, 2.70 m. Longer legs enable lifting of cargo with higher overheight, however, this will make each lift more difficult.
INRS Latch: For spreaders with INRS, a special designed latch is required on the OSR45, in order to reach higher up. With this latch, it will still be possible to connect the OSR45 with standard spreaders using the lifting lugs.
Lifting Lugs: In order to connect the OSR45 to a spreader, the spreader needs to be equipped with a spreader lifting lug. The spreader lifting lug is only designed to lift the OSR45 itself, as it lifts with locked twistlocks, the OSR45 will be lifted by the twistlocks. ST545 Lifting lug and EH5U Lifting lug are available. For other spreader models, contact Bromma for verification.
Service Platform: To simplify maintenance and access of the upper parts of the OSR45, the storage fixture can be adapted to also include a platform with rails and ladders. The platform is especially recommended for OSR45 with leg lengths longer than 1.8 m.
TTDS Plate: For spreaders with Twin Twenty Detection System (TTDS), the OSR45 can be equipped with a special plate on top helping the TTDS to detect that there is not empty space during handling of the OSR45.
Forklift Attachment on Upper Frame: In addition to the standard forklift attachment on the storage frame, a pair of additional forklift attachment can be added to the upper frame.
Warning Stripes: The OSR45 can be equipped with warning stickers.
