Distortion.
Distortion, both from the microphone and from the circuitry, sets an upper
limit to the useful range of the instrument. Fig. 5.9 shows some typical
distortion curves for the one inch microphone normally supplied with the
Sound Level Meter, and Fig. 5.10 gives the distortion originating in the
source-follower and amplifier circuits.
