Fig.6.23. Aerodynamically induced noise levels
for
1 inch microphone
with
Nose Cone VA 0051
They
are made
to
substitute
the
normal protection grid
of
the
micro-
phones, and are
of
a streamlined shape
in
order
to
give
the
least possible air
resistance. The fine wire mesh around
the
circumference allows sound waves
to
penetrate
to
the
microphone diaphragm, while a truncated cone behind
the
mesh reduces
the
air volume
in
front
of
the
diaphragm. Typical noise
reduction curves for
the
Nose Cone
UA
0051, when fitted
to
a Condenser
Microphone Type 4145 are shown
in
Fig.6.23. When
the
Nose Cones are
used together with
the
free-field
type
Microphone Cartridges (4145,
4131,
4133
and 4135) excellent omni-directional characteristics are obtained
for
the combination. Fig.6.24 shows an example
of
the
one
inch microphone
4145.
6.2.9. Windscreen
UA
0237
This
is
exactly
the
same
as
UA
0207
but
fits half inch microphones.
