Chapter 4 Syntax and Data Types
Types of Data
The following suffix multipliers are available for entry through the interface.
k or K representing kilo and equivalent to E+3
m or M representing milli and equivalent to E–3
u or U representing micro and equivalent to E–6
n or N representing nano and equivalent to E–9
p or P representing pico and equivalent to E–12
When information containing any of these non-numeric suffixes is output from the
amplifier, it is expressed in exponential notation. Suffix units are only legal when
included in the syntax diagrams, while suffix multipliers are allowed with all numeric
input.
V (Volt), DB (decibel), S (second), and Hz (Hertz) are examples of legal suffix units
used with some interface messages.
In this manual both commands and queries are illustrated using syntax diagrams,
and are often accompanied by examples. When a syntax diagram illustrates the
input of numeric data, an explanation is given as to how the 2525 accepts the
numeric data. A legal range is always given (unless only specific values are al-
lowed, and these are shown), and the value received by the amplifier is rounded so
that it lies within the allowable range.
If many values are legal, the explanation given will indicate whether the 2525
chooses the nearest value above (Round Up) the nearest value below (Round Down)
or just the nearest value (Round Nearest). The value is always rounded to the given
resolution.
The default value for the parameter is also given. This is the factory setting for
that parameter.
4.2.3 String Data
String data is the format used to enter text in a message. In addition, it is used to
enter special characters not allowed in character data fields.
String data is always enclosed in quotation marks. To include one quotation mark
in the string data field, two quotation marks need to be entered. Fig. 4.7 gives the
