Chapter 5 General Control Messages
Introduction
5.1 Introduction
Every function available using the pushkeys on the amplifier is available over the
interfaces except for the interface parameters themselves (which must be specified
manually before the amplifier can be controlled remotely). The general syntax for
the messages which control the amplifier over the interface has been described in
Chapter 4. This chapter describes the commands which carry out non-measurement
functions. Such functions include the following:
Remote/Local set-up
Providing information about the status of a measurement or operation in
progress
Providing information regarding the current measurement and display set-ups
as well as the configuration of the amplifier
Status reporting and error messages
Amplifier resets
These functions provide operation via the interfaces with possibilities and control
which go beyond a simple manual operation of the amplifier.
5.2 Remote/Local Set-up
As described in section 2.3, when Remote is set to ON, the amplifiers pushkeys are
locked (except ) and it can only be accessed via interface. The pushkeys are
disabled until either Remote is set to OFf or is pressed
*
. If Local_Lockout is
pressed, even is disabled, and the only way to regain manual use of the
amplifier is to specify Remote to OFf*. The syntax for the command is shown in
Fig.5.1.
* Note that it is possible via the IEEE–488 interface to alter the Remote/Local state of the amplifier using standard
IEEE–488 messages (GTL, LLO, REN, etc.). See section 2.3
