2.3.2 General Operating Characteristics
Sidetone
The mouth-ear sidetone characteristic of the HATS (i.e., the influence of the mouth simulator
output on the ear simulator output) is shown in Fig.2.12 for both an open and a closed ear.
Open-ear sidetone is for practical purposes identical to the airborne portion because the
structure-borne portion has been minimised by special decoupling arrangements. For the
closed-ear measurement a closed coupler DB-2902 is used.
Full duplex operation of the HATS is possible, i.e., both the ear simulator and the mouth
simulator can be used at the same time.
