Pistonphone Type 4220.
The
Pistonphone
Type
4220 (Fig. A.l) is a
small,
portable
battery-driven
unit
weighing
only
1.5 lbs.
which
is
extremely
well-suited
for
field
calibration.
The
pistonphone
produce
·s,
when
fitted
to
a B & K
microphone,
a
sound
pressure
level
of
12
'4 dB
at
250 Hz
which
is
known
with
an
error
of
less
than
± o.2 dB.
This
enables
a
direct
calibration
in
dB SL
of
a
meter
scale
to
be
made,
and
measurements
the
·
refore
to
be
taken
with
an
excellent
accuracy
if
the
frequency
response
and
the
dynamic
linearity
(including
the
atrlenu-
ators)
of
the
instrumentation
following
the
microphone
are
ascertained.
A
barometer
is
supplied
with
the
instrument
for
direct
readling
o.f
ambient
pressure
corrections,
together
with
adaptors
for
fitting
to
the
different
B & K
microphones.
