5. Sound recording: instructions to the complainant.
5.1 When you wish to start recording the noise, press the push button on the hand-switch. A red
light will indicate recording has commenced.
5.2 To stop recording, press the push button on the hand-switch. The red indicator will go off to
indicate that recording has stopped.
5.3 The purpose of this exercise is to make representative recordings of the offending noise.
Short samples only are required, not continuous recording of the offending noise. Do not
make recordings of less than 30 seconds or more than 5 minutes at a time.
5.4
It is recommended that the complainant should note the times at which the hand-switch is
activated and stopped and to note the reason for the recording. This will help later analysis
to confirm that these manual timings correspond to those automatically recorded with the
sound recordings.
5.5
To ensure the complainant is happy with the operation of the remote control, let them make a
recording with you present. This recording can be logged on the written record kept by the
complainant.
