PULSE Multi-analyzer System Type 3560-B/C/D/E Installation and IDAe Hardware106
9.2.2 Power Cable from USB port to Wireless Bridge, AQ-1708
With this cable it should be possible to power a wireless bridge from the USB port on the
PC. Care should be taken since not all USB ports are capable of providing 500 mA.
Cable length: 0.5 m
Note: This cable is NOT suited for use with the UL-0230, which uses too much power to
be powered from the USB port.
9.3 System and Antenna Configurations
The Linksys WET54 system can be set up in several different ways depending on the
system requirements.
For short to medium range (< 20 m), it is possible to use the Built-in WLAN in Intel Centrino
equipped Notebook PCs (Fig.9.5) and the standard antenna on the UL-0230.
Fig.9.5 Notebook PC and Linksys WET54
The pictures show three different antenna configurations:
Attached 2.2 dBi Antenna
8.5 dBi Omnidirectional Magnet-base Car Antenna
15 dBi Omnidirectional Antenna
For medium to large range (up to 800 m), it is recommended to add an antenna at the PC
(Fig.9.6). Since most PC suppliers do not offer a connector for external antennas, another
Linksys WET54 can be added using the standard LAN interface. The built-in WLAN card
should be disabled in this configuration.
