Chapter 3
Start-up and Testing
3.1 Digital Self-test
As soon as the power to the front-end is switched on, a brief self-test is automatically
executed within all modules except Types 3030, 3032 and 3109.
Input/Output Modules
The Measuring LED is used by the I/O module to show the test result. The LED can show
three states.
• LED flashing: Controlled by hardware only
• LED on (not flashing): Controlled by embedded software. This means testing or test
failed
• LED off: Controlled by embedded software. This indicates that the test result is OK.
The following tests are executed:
• Digital Signal Processor test
• System RAM
• External logic
• Bus communications test
Controller Modules
The following tests are executed:
• System RAM
• External logic
• Bus communications test
• LAN interface test
System configuration is read-out via the serial interface (RS–232). If an error occurs during
this test, an error report is sent via the RS–232 interface. This requires connection using a
hyperterminal program – see section 3.4.
