12.2.2 Channel Names
Channel names are used on all the display screens to identify the channels. A descriptive channel
name usually works best. A few examples are shown below.
Name (Examples) Comment
VXE-932
VYE-932
VXE-931
VYE-931
Not enough information.
If this is a small installation with a minimal number of points
this could be acceptable.
VXE-932 (T-NDE)
VYE-932 (T-NDE)
VXE-931 (T-DE)
VYE-931 (T-DE)
Good.
The abbreviations used are typical for the United States. T =
Turbine, NDE = Non-Drive End, DE = Driven End.
Turb NDE X (VXE-932)
Turb NDE Y (VYE-932)
Turb DE X (VXE-931)
Turb DE Y (VYE-931)
Good.
For CMS systems this may work better as it allows a more
natural grouping when the channels are sorted
alphabetically.
Motor Lower Bearing Vib X
Motor Lower Bearing Vib Y
Pump NDE Vib X
Pump NDE Vib Y
Good.
These names are long, but there is no possibility of
