Adjustment of a Chamber on the D8
36 DOC-M88-EXX268_V1_12.2016
If you can’t find any intensity or you are insensitive to the movements of the chamber,
maybe the height is completely wrong. Check the height with a fluorescent screen and
move the chamber with the height adjustment into the beam.
Adjustments should be done under measurement conditions (for example vacuum or
normal pressure). Vacuum can change the position of the sample due to chamber
movement.
4.1.1 Adjustment Procedure with Alignment Slit
If you have received an alignment slit with your chamber, mount it as described in the An-
ton Paar Manual.
Preparation
u Before mounting, make sure that the diffractometer is well aligned.
1. Align the chamber height roughly by eye, so that the slit is positioned within the path of
the X-ray beam.
2. Make sure that the X-ray beam hits the slit.
3. Align the chamber optically with the θ-zero line,
4. Fix the adapter to the goniometer.
Alignment
Then proceed as following (see your Anton Paar Manual for chamber specifics):
1. Insert absorbers to ensure a count rate of <10kcps in the direct beam. Open the
receiving slit of the detector (0D-detector) or use all strips of the LYNXEYE detector in
0D mode.
2. Move θ and 2θ angles to zero.
