9 Installation and Operation of the
BTS 150 and BTS 500 Chambers
9.1 Introduction
The Benchtop Heating Stages BTS 150 and BTS 500 are the smallest XRD non-ambient
stages available from Anton Paar and are designed for use in small spaces and ease-of-
use.
The BTS500 uses a resistance heater to operate in the temperature range between room
temperature and 500°C. The BTS150 operates between ‑35°C and 150°C with the use
of a Peltier heater.
They are different from the other chambers in that they don’t require an external controller.
This changes the way they are integrated into the diffractometer. Changes with respect to
the other chambers are given below. For all other instructions, we refer to the chapters
Adjustment of a Chamber on the D8 [}35] and Installation and Operation of the HTK-Se-
ries, TTK 600, XRK 900, and HPC 900 Chambers [}49].
9.2 Mounting the Chamber to the Goniometer
u It is assumed that the diffractometer is aligned before mounting the chamber.
1. Set detector and source to a large angle to prevent them from restricting installation.
2. Switch off mains supply.
3. Remove the present sample holder and insert the chamber mount into the central hole
of the diffractometer.
4. Fix the chamber mount using the three screw holes.
