ELECTRIC POWER
MANAGEMENT
This system monitors the tempera-
ture and charge status of the vehi-
cle’s battery and automatically
adjusts the voltage to enhance
performance and extend battery
life.
You may see the battery voltage
reading fluctuate in the Driver
Information Center display. This is
normal.
If the system senses a problem, a
message will appear on the Driver
Information Center display.
See "Driver Information Center
Messages" earlier in this section for
more information.
This system monitors the electrical
load of the vehicle's battery and
automatically increases the idle
speed of the engine to compen-
sate for heavy electrical load
conditions.
Heavy electrical loads may occur
when several of the following
systems are on simultaneously:
Headlight High/Low Beams
Fog Lights
Climate Controls/Rear Window
Defogger
Heated Seats
Engine Cooling Fan
Using the accessory power outlets
or pulling a trailer will also produce
heavy electrical loads.
If the battery continues to
discharge while the engine idle
speed is elevated, some electrical
loads will automatically be
reduced.
For example, the rear window
defogger may take longer to clear
the glass or the fan speed for the
climate control system may
decrease.
If one of the following messages
appears, the electrical load is too
high:
BATTERY SAVER ACTIVE
BATTERY VOLTS LOW
To help reduce electrical load, turn
off all unneeded accessories, such
as the radio and air conditioner.

section, for more information:
