CAR CONTACT BRUSHES
Contact brushes, as fitted to each car in pairs, transfer the electrical power generated by the
batteries (in the Connecting Section) to the track, then via each car’s contact brushes to
power each car’s drive motor.
As such, it is essential that the brushes are correctly positioned at all times (as detailed
above) and clear of any debris, or the cars will not function properly/at all. It is also important
to ensure that no fluff or other dirt/debris gets on the moving parts of the cars, as this will
impede performance and can lead to premature transmission/motor wear.
Additionally, contact brushes are a consumable part that needs periodic replacement
(replace per car in pairs, not individually). They are a push fit into the car and are easily
changed.

general contact brush maintenance and fitting. The video is intended for Carrera GO!!!-
series cars, but everything detailed is identical for FIRST-series cars.
CARS
FIRST-series slot racing sets are designed such that the cars are intended to stay on the
track the majority of the time, even when the hand controller’s plunger is fully depressed,
and the cars are operating at full speed. However, as with real cars, those with a higher
centre-of-gravity (taller) will be less stable around corners than those with a lower centre-of-
gravity (shorter). Also, cars will run faster when batteries are fresher (have more
charge/power). As such, it may be necessary to reduce speed momentarily around the
bends to ensure the car stays on the race track. This hand controller adjustment is a key
component of slot car racing and helps add to the fun of driving different cars around
challenging courses.
