  Several factors can cause insufficient capacity or improper cooling/heating in your Carrier Heat Pump. A dirty filter restricts airflow, so replace or clean it. Check for reduced airflow in heating or cooling, inspect fan motor operation, and address any airflow restrictions. High external static can also be a factor. Leaky ductwork can cause temperature differences between the unit and registers, indicating leaks. Low refrigerant charge or a restricted metering device can also be culprits. Other potential causes include a defective reversing valve, an improperly located thermostat, scaling in the water heat exchanger. Also recheck loads and sizing, loop sizing, loop backfill, ground moisture.

Also, check the fan motor operation and airflow restrictions. Dirty air coil or excessive external static pressure (check Table 4) can also cause this issue.

Make sure to adjust water flow to the proper rate. If the anti-freeze level is inadequate, check the anti-freeze density with a hydrometer. For improper freeze protect settings, clip the JW2 jumper for anti-freeze (-12.2°C) use. If the water temperature is out of range, bring it within design parameters. Finally, a bad thermistor can cause this issue, so check the temperature and impedance correlation.

If the air temperature is out of range, especially if there is too much cold vent air, bring the entering air temperature within design parameters. For improper freeze protect settings, note that normal airside applications will require -1.1°C only. Finally, a bad thermistor can cause this, so check the temperature and impedance correlation.
