GPS Signal
The eFemto requires a strong GPS signal from the provided indoor GPS antenna. For
installation other than with the provided GPS antenna, please refer to the online 4G
LTE Network Extender for Enterprise User Guide.
Placement
The eFemto can be installed: vertically or horizontally on a wall, floor, or ceiling. Place
the unit at least 10 feet away from products that generate electromagnetic radiation
(e.g., microwave oven).
1. Identify a location for the eFemto, central to users, but no more than 21 feet
from an exterior window or wall to allow for a strong GPS signal.
2. Identify a power source for the eFemto.
3. Follow device mounting, installation, and power up steps.
Mounting Procedure
The package contains screws and anchors for drywall mounting. Installation on
alternate surfaces will require the purchase of the appropriate anchors and
hardware.
1. Determine the mounting location and verify that no wires, pipes, etc., are
directly behind or in the wall at the point of mounting.
2. Use the wall mounting bracket to act as a template to mark anchor holes
on the wall.
3. Drill holes into drywall and push in the supplied plastic drywall anchors.
Installation on surfaces other than drywall may require different anchoring
hardware which can be purchased at your local hardware store.
4. Align the mounting bracket with the wall anchors and attach using the supplied
screws (4 x No.10 1” length with fastener).
5. Slide the eFemto with mounting bracket into the wall mountingbracket.
6. Fasten retaining screws (Self-tapped screw,1018 harden, PA4*25, Phillips 2#,
Color-Zn plating) on the side of the bracket.
7. When power is supplied through the PoE port, the PoE power source should
meet Class 4 and Class 5 requirements.

Do you have a question about the Casa Systems 4G/5G Network Extender 4 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Casa Systems Apex Enterprise Small Cell, also known as eFemto, is a network extender designed to enhance 4G LTE and 5G NR network coverage for enterprise users. It functions by providing a strong GPS signal and connecting to a power source, either directly or via Power over Ethernet (PoE), to extend network capabilities.

Function Description:

The eFemto serves as a small cell device that extends 4G LTE and 5G NR network coverage. It requires a strong GPS signal, typically obtained from the included indoor GPS antenna, to operate effectively. The device connects to a router or modem via an Ethernet cable, which can also supply power if PoE is utilized. Once powered up and connected, the eFemto initiates a startup sequence, indicated by various LED lights, to establish network connectivity and begin providing extended coverage. The device supports both internal and external antenna configurations, with dedicated ports for 4G LTE and 5G NR external antennas.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Input: 12V DC via a dedicated power supply or Power over Ethernet (PoE). When using PoE, the power source should meet Class 4 and Class 5 requirements.
  • Antenna Connections:
    • 4G Ant 1: Antenna 1 connection for LTE external antenna/DAS.
    • 4G Ant 2: Antenna 2 connection for LTE external antenna/DAS.
    • 5G Ant 3: Antenna 3 connection for 5G NR external antenna/DAS.
    • 5G Ant 4: Antenna 4 connection for 5G NR external antenna/DAS.
  • GPS: Requires a strong GPS signal from the provided indoor GPS antenna. The initial GPS fix can take up to 60 minutes.
  • Ethernet/WAN: Connects to a router or modem via an Ethernet cable, supporting PoE for power and data.
  • Local Monitoring Terminal (LMT) Port: Used for managing settings and displaying device status.
  • Reset Button: Allows for a factory reset of the device by pressing and holding for 10 seconds.
  • FCC Compliance: Complies with FCC part 15 rules and FCC requirements for RF exposure, requiring a minimum distance of 58cm between the radiator and the user's body.
  • Operating Environment: Designed for indoor use. Placement should be at least 10 feet away from products that generate electromagnetic radiation (e.g., microwave ovens).

Usage Features:

  • Easy Installation: The eFemto can be installed vertically or horizontally on a wall, floor, or ceiling using the included mounting bracket and hardware. The package includes screws and anchors for drywall mounting, with options for purchasing appropriate hardware for other surfaces.
  • Flexible Power Options: Can be powered by a dedicated 12V DC power supply or through a Power over Ethernet (PoE) connection, offering flexibility in deployment.
  • GPS Signal Requirement: A strong GPS signal is crucial for operation. The device comes with an indoor GPS antenna, and proper placement (within 21 feet of an exterior window or wall) is recommended to ensure a strong signal.
  • LED Indicators: The device features multiple LED indicators (Power, 4G, 5G, Link, Sync, Alarm) that provide visual feedback on its operational status, including power, network activity, synchronization, and any alarms.
  • Antenna Flexibility: Supports both internal and external antennas, allowing for optimized signal reception and transmission based on the installation environment.
  • Cable Management: The mounting bracket includes features for cable management to maintain a tidy installation.
  • Quick Start Guide: Comes with a Quick Start Guide for initial setup and installation.

Maintenance Features:

  • Troubleshooting via LEDs: The LED indicators are a primary tool for troubleshooting. For example, a red "Alarm" LED indicates a system error, while specific combinations of 4G/5G/Sync LEDs can indicate GPS signal issues or network connectivity problems.
  • Factory Reset: A dedicated reset button allows users to restore the device to factory default settings, which can be useful for resolving configuration issues.
  • User Guide Reference: For detailed information on backhaul bandwidth requirements, specific firewall settings, and advanced troubleshooting, users are directed to the online 4G LTE Network Extender for Enterprise User Guide.
  • Monitoring Terminal: The LMT port allows for local monitoring and management of device settings, providing a means for advanced diagnostics and configuration adjustments.
  • Firmware Updates: While not explicitly detailed in the provided text, the "Power" LED status indicating "Firmware upgrading" suggests that the device supports firmware updates, which are essential for maintaining optimal performance and security.
  • Environmental Considerations: Warnings against covering the device or blocking airflow emphasize the importance of proper ventilation for long-term reliability and preventing overheating.
