SHIMMING
Foreachadjustmentoperation,selectadjustingshimsandmeasureindividuallyusingamicrometer,thenaddup
themeasuredvalues:Donotrelyonmeasuringtheentireshimmingset,whichmaybeincorrect,ortheratedvalue
indicatedforeachonshim.
ROTATINGSHAFTSEALS
Forcorrectrotatingshaftsealinstallation,proceedasfollows:
•
thoroughlycleantheshaftandcheckthattheworkingsurfaceontheshaftisnotdamaged;
•
positionthesealinglipfacingtheuid;withhydrodynamiclips,takeintoconsiderationtheshaftrotationdirection
andpositionthegroovessothattheywilldeviatetheuidtowardstheinnersideoftheseal;
•
coatthesealinglipwithathinlayeroflubricant(useoilratherthangrease)andllthegapbetweenthesealinglip
andthedustlipondoublelipsealswithgrease;
•
insertthesealinitsseatandpressdownusingasealinstaller;donottapthesealwithahammerormallet;
•
whilstinsertingtheseal,checkthatitisperpendiculartotheseat;oncesettled.
•
topreventdamagingtheseallipontheshaft,positionaprotectiveguardduringinstallationoperations.
O--RINGSEALS
LubricatetheO--RINGsealsbeforeinsertingthemintheseats,thiswillpreventthemfromoverturningandtwisting,
whichwouldjeopardisesealingefciency.
SEALINGCOMPOUNDS
Applyoneofthefollowingsealingcompoundsonthematingsurfacesmarked,onthismanual,withanX:RTV1473,
RHODORSIL®CAF1orLOCTITEPLASTICGASKET.
Beforeapplyingthesealingcompound,preparethesurfacesasfollows:
•
removeanyincrustationsusingawirebrush;
•
WARNING
Chemicalhazard!
Alwayswearprotectiveclothingandgoggleswhencleaningwithsolvents,acids,oralkalinechem-
icalagents.Alwaysfollowthechemicalmanufacturer'sinstructions.
Failuretocomplycouldresultindeathorseriousinjury.

thoroughlyde-greasethesurfacesusingoneofthefollowingcleaningagents:trichlorethylene,Dieselfuelora
waterandsodiumhydroxide(NaOH,alsoknownascausticsoda)solution.
BEARINGS
Wheninstallingbearingsitisadvisedto:
•
heatthebearingsto80÷90°Cbeforettingontheshafts;
•
allowthebearingstocoolbeforeinstallingthem.
SPRINGPINS
Whenttingsplitsocketelasticpins,ensurethatthepinnotchispositionedinthedirectionoftheforcerequiredto
stressthepin.
Spiralspringpinsdonotrequirespecialpositioning.
