technicalinformationelectronicallythroughCDROMandinpapermanuals.AcodingsystemcalledICEhasbeen
developedtolinkthetechnicalinformationtootherProductSupportfunctionse.g.Warranty.
Technicalinformationiswrittentosupportthemaintenanceandserviceofthefunctionsorsystemsonacustomers
machine.Whenacustomerhasaconcernonhismachineitisusuallybecauseafunctionorsystemonhismachine
isnotworkingatall,isnotworkingefciently,orisnotrespondingcorrectlytohiscommands.Whenyourefertothe
technicalinformationinthismanualtoresolvethatcustomersconcern,youwillndalltheinformationclassiedusing
thenewICEcoding,accordingtothefunctionsorsystemsonthatmachine.Onceyouhavelocatedthetechnical
informationforthatfunctionorsystemthenyouwillndallthemechanical,electricalorhydraulicdevices,compo-
nents,assembliesandsub-assembliesforthatfunctionorsystem.Youwillalsondallthetypesofinformationthat
havebeenwrittenforthatfunctionorsystem,thetechnicaldata(specications),thefunctionaldata(howitworks),
thediagnosticdata(faultcodesandtroubleshooting)andtheservicedata(remove,installadjust,etc.).
ByintegratingthisnewICEcodingintotechnicalinformation,youwillbeabletosearchandretrievejusttheright
pieceoftechnicalinformationyouneedtoresolvethatcustomersconcernonhismachine.Thisismadepossibleby
attaching3categoriestoeachpieceoftechnicalinformationduringtheauthoringprocess.
TherstcategoryistheLocation,thesecondcategoryistheInformationTypeandthethirdcategoryistheProduct:
