Overview

The Cecomp® Intrinsically Safe Digital Pressure Gauges, with Min/Max Options, are designed for precise pressure measurement in hazardous locations, with Factory Mutual approval for Class I, Division 1, Groups A, B, C, D (T3C Ta = -40°C to 82°C; T4 Ta = -40°C to 66°C) and CL I Zone 0 AEx/Ex ia IIC (T3 Ta = -40°C to 82°C; T4 Ta = -40°C to 66°C) in USA & Canada. These devices offer a range of features for enhanced usability and reliability.

Function Description:

These digital pressure gauges provide accurate pressure readings with min/max options, allowing users to track the highest and lowest pressure values over time. They are equipped with a front button for power on/off, zeroing, and cycling through min/max functions. Internal buttons facilitate engineering unit selection, auto shutoff time configuration, min/max setup, and calibration. A lockout switch prevents unauthorized setup and calibration changes. The gauges are designed for various pressure ranges and engineering units, including psig, inHg, inH2O, kPa, MPa, bar, and others, with resolution fixed and limited by available display digits.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Accuracy: Standard accuracy is ±0.25% of full scale ±1 least significant digit (LSD). An optional HA accuracy offers ±0.1% FS ±1 LSD. Sensor hysteresis is ±0.015% FS, and repeatability is ±0.01% FS, both included in the accuracy specification.
  • Display: Features a 4-digit LCD with 0.5" H characters and a 5-character 0.25" H alphanumeric display. The nominal display update rate is 3 readings per second.
  • Backlight: A red LED backlight is standard (BL models), activating for 1 minute with a keypress if enabled and ambient light is insufficient.
  • Auto Shutoff: User-selectable options include 5, 10, 30 minutes, or on/off.
  • Memory Options: Min/max functions can be individually enabled or disabled. Readings can be saved or cleared at power off. Standard models (Std) have min/max enabled, while MO models have min/max turned off in setup. M1 models are designed for peak reading only, suitable for tire pressure applications.
  • Calibration: Non-interactive zero, span, and linearity adjustments (±10% of range) are performed via internal setup/calibration buttons and an internal lockout switch.
  • Power: Powered by two 1.5 V AAA Panasonic LR03 alkaline cells. Battery life is approximately 1000 hours (B models) or 150 to 1000 hours with backlight usage (BL models). A low battery symbol indicates when replacement is needed.
  • Weight: Approximately 9 ounces (shipping weight 1 pound).
  • Housing: NEMA 4X epoxy powder-coated aluminum case, rear cover, and bezel. Front and rear rubber gaskets, polycarbonate label, and a stainless steel stiffener plate reinforce the sensor area. Circuit boards are conformal coated for moisture resistance.
  • Connection: 1/4" NPT male fitting. All wetted parts are 316L stainless steel.
  • Overpressure/Burst/Vacuum: Overpressure is 2X pressure range for 3 psi to 2000 psi sensors, 5000 psig for 3000 psig sensors, and 7500 psig for 5000 psig sensors. Burst pressure is 4X sensor pressure rating or 10,000 psi, whichever is less. Over-range display is 112.5% FS. Under-range display for non-vacuum sensors is "-Err". Vacuum service ranges include 15 psia, ±15 psig, 15 psig, 30 psia, 100 psig, 100 psia, and 200 psig sensors.
  • Environmental Temperatures: Storage: -40 to 203°F (-40 to 95°C). Operating: -4 to 185°F (-20 to 85°C). Sensor compensated range: 32 to 158°F (0 to 70°C).

Usage Features:

  • Power Up: Press and hold the front button for about 1 second. The gauge performs a display test, shows the full-scale range, and then displays the actual pressure and units.
  • Zeroing (Gauge Reference Models Only): With the gauge port exposed to atmospheric pressure, press and hold the front button until "oooo" is displayed to zero the gauge. This correction is temporary and erased upon shutoff. An error condition ("Err O") occurs if attempting to zero with pressure greater than 3% of full-scale.
  • Normal Operation: After initialization, the display updates 3 times per second. The auto shutoff timer starts with power-up or button press, unless set to on/off.
  • Min/Max Memory (D4, MO, M1 Series):
    • D4-M1 Peak Reading Gauge: Allows selection to retain maximum captured values at power off (MAN) or clear automatically (AUTO).
    • D4 and D4-M0 Max/Min Configuration: Users can select to capture both highest and lowest values (MX/MN), only highest (MX/--), only lowest (--/MN), or disable the feature (--/--).
    • D4 and D4-M0 Max/Min Memory: Similar to D4-M1, allows selection to clear max/min values automatically (AUTO) or manually (MAN) at power off.
    • M1 Versions: Display and capture only maximum readings, continuously updated.
  • Gauge Type Configuration: For 15, 100, or 200 psig ranges, users can configure the gauge to display vacuum as negative pressure (-/+EU) or as negative INHG with pressure in PSIG (CMPND).
  • Backlight Time Selection (BL Option Only): Configurable for 1 minute with keypress (AUTO), always on (ON), or disabled (OFF).
  • User Configuration: Access to advanced features like engineering unit selection, auto shutoff time, and min/max settings is done via internal switch and buttons. A pass code (default 3510) is required for access.
  • Calibration Mode: Accessed by pressing and holding the DOWN button, then the front button, until "CAL" is displayed. A pass code (default 3510) is required. Calibration points include zero, full-scale, and 50% of full-scale for pressure, vacuum, and compound ranges.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Replacement: Indicated by a low battery symbol. Replace both AAA alkaline cells (Panasonic LR03 1.5 V) simultaneously with approved types in non-hazardous locations.
  • Cleaning: The non-metallic cover is an electrostatic discharge hazard; clean only with a damp cloth.
  • Calibration: Factory calibrated to NIST traceable standards. Re-calibration intervals depend on quality standards, typically annual. Requires appropriate calibration equipment (at least 4 times more accurate than the gauge) and a vacuum pump for vacuum/absolute gauges.
  • Disposal: Electrical and electronic equipment should be disposed of according to local regulations, not as household waste. Products can be returned to Absolute Process Instruments for proper disposal.
  • General Precautions: Use within specified pressure ranges and media compatible with 316L stainless steel. Avoid applying vacuum to non-vacuum gauges. Not for oxygen service. Do not insert objects into the gauge port or blow out with compressed air. Remove system pressures before removing or installing the gauge. Install/remove using a wrench on the hex fitting only. Do not modify the gauge or substitute components, as this may impair intrinsic safety.
