Drive Belt
In order for the generator,
power steering pump and air
conditioning compressor to
function properly, the drive belt
should be in good condition and
should be adjusted properly.
Replace the drive belt if it is worn,
cracked, or frayed.
CAUTION
Do not leave the key in the igni-
tion while checking the drive
belt.
Otherwise, the engine could be
started unexpectedly.
Fans or other moving engine
parts can injure you badly.
To check the drive belt tension, do
the following:
1. Apply moderate thumb pres-
sure (approximately 10 kgf)
midway along the longest,
unsupported span of the drive
belt.
The deflection of the drive belt
(caused by your thumb pres-
sure) should be about 10 mm.
2. If the belt is too loose, see
your dealer for service.
See the Maintenance Schedule for
more information.
