Overview

This document describes the "JOURNEY" child restraint system, a versatile car seat designed for the safe transportation of children across multiple weight groups, from birth up to approximately 12 years of age (0-36 kg). The system is approved according to Regulation No 44, 04 series of amendments, and complies with the Product Safety Directive 2001/95/EU and national consumer protection laws.

Function Description

The "JOURNEY" child restraint system serves as a safety device for children in vehicles, offering various installation methods and configurations to accommodate different age and weight groups. It functions as a "UNIVERSAL" child restraint for groups 0+, I, II, and III, and also as a "semi-universal" ISOFIX child restraint for group 0+.

For group 0+ (0-13 kg), the system is an integral ISOFIX child restraint (ISOFIX class D) and is installed in a rearward-facing direction using ISOFIX attachments, a top tether, and the child car seat's 5-point safety belt. Alternatively, it can be installed rearward-facing using a 3-point vehicle safety belt and the child car seat's 5-point safety belt.

For group I (9-18 kg), it functions as an integral ISOFIX child restraint, allowing for both rearward-facing and forward-facing installation. When forward-facing, it can use additional ISOFIX attachments, the child car seat's 5-point safety belt, and a 3-point vehicle safety belt. Without ISOFIX, it uses a 3-point vehicle safety belt and the child car seat's 5-point safety belt for forward-facing installation.

For groups II (15-25 kg) and III (22-36 kg), the system becomes a non-integral system, installed in a forward-facing direction. It utilizes the 3-point vehicle safety belt. For these groups, additional ISOFIX attachment is also possible.

The car seat features a 360-degree rotation on its base, allowing for easy placement of the child and switching between rearward and forward-facing positions. It includes a backrest recline function and a headrest height adjustment mechanism to ensure optimal comfort and safety as the child grows. A 5-point safety harness is integrated into the restraint for younger children, along with additional soft pads for enhanced comfort.

Usage Features

Installation: The car seat offers multiple installation methods depending on the child's weight group and vehicle features. For group 0+ (0-13 kg), rearward-facing installation is mandatory. This can be achieved using ISOFIX anchors, a top tether, and the car seat's 5-point harness, or with the vehicle's 3-point safety belt and the car seat's 5-point harness. ISOFIX guides (02) are provided if the vehicle is not equipped with them. The ISOFIX anchors (12) attach to the vehicle's devices (01) located between the seat and backrest, with a "click" sound confirming proper engagement. A green indicator on the ISOFIX mechanism confirms correct installation. The top tether must be attached and tightened until its adjustment mechanism also shows a green color.

For group I (9-18 kg), the car seat can be installed either rearward-facing (as for group 0+) or forward-facing. Forward-facing installation requires the car seat to be placed on the vehicle seat, with the backrest in an upright position. The vehicle's 3-point safety belt is then threaded through specific guides (23) and locked into the buckle. The diagonal and lap belts must be placed under the soft pad and tightened. Additional ISOFIX fixing is available for group I forward-facing installation, where the ISOFIX anchors (12) are fixed, and the 3-point vehicle belt is inserted through the guides.

For groups II (15-25 kg) and III (22-36 kg), the 5-point child car seat safety belts are removed, and the car seat is used in a forward-facing position. The child is secured using the vehicle's 3-point safety belt. The diagonal belt (25) and lap belt (26) are routed through specific guides (27, 28) and locked into the buckle (24). The diagonal belt must go above the child's shoulder but not above their neck, and must not be twisted.

Adjustments:

  • Shoulder belts: For groups 0+ and I, the shoulder belts (05) of the 5-point harness can be adjusted by pressing a button (04) and pulling the belts simultaneously. They should be at the same height level as the child's shoulders.
  • Headrest: The headrest (08) height can be adjusted by pulling a mechanism (07). For groups 0+ and I, it moves in conjunction with the shoulder belts. For groups II and III, the head support (08) must be set so that there is approximately a two-finger distance between the child's shoulder and the head support.
  • Backrest recline: The backrest (11) can be reclined by pulling a mechanism (10) and moving the seat to the desired position.
  • Rotation: The seat (11) can be rotated 360 degrees on its base by pulling a mechanism (32) until the desired position is reached.

Securing the child: For groups 0+ and I, the child is secured using the car seat's 5-point safety belt. The shoulder belt metal endings (20) are joined and inserted into the central buckle (19) until a "click" is heard. The belts are then tightened to fit snugly against the child's body using the adjustment strap. Belts must not be twisted or cause discomfort. For groups II and III, the child is secured directly with the vehicle's 3-point safety belt, ensuring it is snug and correctly positioned.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning:

  • Fabrics, plastic parts, and metal parts can be cleaned with a damp cotton cloth or sponge and mild soap.
  • Upholstery can be hand-washed at 30°C using mild detergent.
  • Do not bleach, tumble dry, machine wash, or iron the upholstery.
  • Avoid using abrasive, bleach, or other aggressive detergents.
  • After cleaning, ensure the car seat is fully dry before use or storage.
  • Harnesses should be cleaned with a damp cloth and mild soap.
  • Do not wet or remove the stickers, as they contain important information.

Storage:

  • Always store the car seat indoors in a dry and clean place.
  • Do not expose the car seat to direct environmental influences such as sun, rain, moisture, or high temperatures.
  • If the vehicle is parked under strong sunshine, cover the car seat to prevent deterioration of plastic and fading of fabric.

General Care and Safety:

  • Never leave the child unattended in the car seat.
  • Only use anchor points described in this manual and marked on the restraint system.
  • Never install the child restraint forward-facing before the child's weight exceeds 9 kg.
  • The car seat safety must be properly adjusted according to the child's height, ensuring belts are not twisted and fit snugly.
  • Do not modify or adapt the child restraint with new fittings without prior authorization.
  • Keep the car seat away from fire.
  • Installation and securing the child must be performed by an adult.
  • Hard and plastic parts of the child restraint must be located to prevent them from being trapped by a sliding seat or vehicle door during normal use.
  • Ensure safety belts are not twisted, frayed, or torn, and latches/buckles are in good order and firmly fixed.
  • Discontinue use if any uncertainty or defect is found in the structure, latches, straps, or locking mechanisms, and replace damaged parts.
  • Replace the car seat after a violent impact, as belts and structure may be damaged.
  • Never use a second-hand child restraint, as it may have suffered unseen structural damage.
  • Always use the car seat with its seat cover. Only replace it with a new one supplied by the manufacturer, as fabric parts are integral to the restraint system's safety.
  • Ensure no unsecured objects are carried in the vehicle, especially on the back shelf, as they could injure occupants in an accident.
  • Do not add additional pads other than those supplied by the manufacturer, as they may obscure the child's safety.
  • Do not use spare parts or components not supplied by the manufacturer.
  • The child car seat does not replace a cot or bed; use a suitable baby stroller or crib for sleeping.
  • Do not attach objects with long cords or strings to avoid suffocation.
  • Never place the child seat on beds, couches, or soft surfaces.
  • Do not allow children to play with the product.
  • Do not remove stickers and warnings.
  • Keep product packaging out of reach of children to avoid strangulation risk.
  • Contact an authorized dealer for problems related to use or repair.
