Kickdown
Piston - To increase kickdown
band
capacity,
the
"apply"
area
of
the
kickdown pis-
ton
has
been increased.
Parts
not
inter
changeable
with
previous

are:
piston, rod guide,
snap
ring,
seal rings (off, apply, and
throttle
pressure),
ser
vo
return
and cushion springs.

Exienaion Housing {Model
C73
Only} - Model
C-73 is equipped
with
a
shorte
ned t
ran
smission
housing to accommodate the two propeller
shafts
and
center
bearing
now being used on this
model.
Manual Control
Valve Lever Assembly _
The
lever assembly in
the
transmission
has been
redesigned to accommodate
the
cable-actuated
gearshift
control mechanism.
The
addition of a
pr
ojection on the
detent
plate serves as a stop
for
the
reverse
blocker valve.
The
detent
plate
also serves to
anchor
the
cable
adaptor
assembly.

Reverse Blocker Valve -
Thi
s
spr
ing loaded-
valve
(Fig.
2), located in
the
governor
pressure
line, moves
outward
when
the
vehicle is travel-
ing
forward
at
a speed in excess of
10
mph.
In
its
o
utward
position
it
serves as a stop
to
prevent the
detent
plute (by engaging a projec-
tion on the plate) from positioning
the
manual
valve
in
the
reverse
position.
Transmission
Case
- A new hole
has
been
ma-
chined in the case
to
receive the contr

assembly
as
shown in
Figure
7.
An
"0"
ring
seal prevents leakage of
transmission
fluid
past
the cable housing.
The
forward
bulkhead
has
been
increa
sed in
thickness,
and
the
support
plate end
of
the
transmission
has
been notched to facilitate in-
stallation of
the
r
everse
band.
Torque Converter Outlet
Valve - Due to a change
in
the
reg
ulator valve body, and
the
torque con-
verter
control valve nnd spring,
the
torque
con-
verter
outlet valve assembly
has
been elimi-
nated.
The
regulator
valve body is changed so
that
the
torque
converter
coni
r
ol
valve now reg-
ula
tes
the
pressure
in the
converter
as
it
returns
to
the
sump, instead of
regulating
it
before
it
enters
the
conver
ter
as done previously.
The
new design
maintain
s
working
pressure
in
the
converter,
thus
eliminating loss of fluid
out
of
the
filler
tube
under
extreme
operating
con-
ditions.
The new
torq
ue
converter
regulator
valve can
be installed on early
transmissions
but
the small
torque
converter
outlet valve assembly in
the
line
has
to be removed and
the
valve body (lo-
cated behind
front
pump)
must
be replaced
as
an
assembly.
NOTE: Always install converter control valve
with small hole
in
end
to
outside
of
valve body.
If
this fs not done
it
will
be
impossible
tore-
move the valve without first removing the
1·egu-
lator valve body
{1'om
the transmission.
Reaction Shaft
Seal
Rinqs -
The
seal
rings
now
h~lVe
a
larger
diameter
and
are
not interchange-
able with previous rings.
Kickdown
Sun Gear - A pilot bushing
has
been
added
for
better
alignment
of
gear
and
shaft.
The
thrust
washer
outside
diameter
has been
increased on Models
C-72, C-73,
and
C-72-300
because
of
increased
eng
ine torque.
Neutral Starter
Switch - The tensi
on
of the
plunger
spring
has
been reduced to lower
the
effort required to
operate
the
push button unit.
Previous model
neutral
starter
switches
must
not be used
as
a replacement.
Kickdown Band -
The
internal
diameter
of
the
kickdown band
ha
s been increased.
Either
end
of
the
band can now be insta
ll
ed
to
the
anchor
pin.
The
st
rut
is
na
r
rower
and
shorter
(not
inter
change
able).
The
operating
lever is
an
aluminum extrusion, is
narrower,
and is not
int
erchangeab
le.
