THE LEGENDARY 5.7 LITER HEMI
®
V8 ENGINE
The 5.7-liter HEMI V8 features Variable Valve Timing (VVT), a high compression
ratio, and — in many select models — the advantage of the brilliant Fuel Saver
Technology. In Ram trucks, the addition of an active intake manifold with a
Short Runner Valve (SRV)
(46)
helps boost both peak power and peak torque, and
improves low-end torque for more refined performance.
The 5.7L HEMI V8 provides smooth, quiet operation and excellent durability.
The VVT gives the engine low-speed torque while maximizing fuel efficiency and
reducing engine noise. By deactivating four of the eight cylinders, Fuel Saver
Technology enables the engine to perform powerfully during acceleration, and
yet more economically when the vehicle is cruising. When operating in four-
cylinder mode, fuel economy is improved.
The 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine is available on the following 2014 models:
Chrysler 300 — 363 hp/394 lb-ft of torque
Dodge Charger — 370 hp/395 lb-ft of torque
Dodge Durango — 360 hp/390 lb-ft of torque
Jeep
®
Grand Cherokee — 360 hp/390 lb-ft of torque
Ram 1500 — 395 hp/410 lb-ft of torque
Ram 2500 pickup and Ram 3500 Chassis Cab — 383 hp/400 lb-ft of torque
(non-MDS calibration)
6.4-LITER HEMI V8 WITH VVT AND MDS
Innovations to this powerplant leave the original behind, and utilize many cues and
engineering innovations so critical to the success of the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 across
our portfolio. The incorporation of Variable Valve Timing (VVT) was essential: the
precise control of the opening and closing of valves sharply ramps up horsepower
and torque, and ensures outstanding performance over a large rpm range while
under a wide variety of loads.
Our emphasis on getting the most from every drop of fuel also was part of the
engineering mandate. The incorporation of a Multi-Displacement System (MDS)
is fuel-saving technology that addresses highway performance and the bottom
line. By deactivating four of the eight cylinders while cruising, the 6.4-liter delivers
surprisingly effective fuel-efficiencies; indeed, this combination of power and fuel-
sipping performance provides the rationale for making this gas engine the new
standard engine across the medium- and heavy-duty Ram lineup. As well as its use
in our performance vehicles, the 6.4-liter HEMI with VVT and MDS is now available
for Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty pickups and the formidable Ram 3500,
4500 and 5500 class Chassis Cabs; the engine is mated to a variety of 6-speed
automatic transmissions, depending on model. As well, horsepower and torque
vary according to model.
Advantages: exceptional horsepower and torque with fuel-efficient
performance from MDS/Fuel Saving Technology.
