7 - ELECTRICITY
7 a- Battery
Check its level often, which should be 1cm above the plates.
If it is difficult to access, check this level to a minimum by inserting the little finger successively into each of the
battery filler openings. Refill the level with distilled water, do not use ordinary water because of the lime it
contains.
To recharge it, prefer a slow charge to a fast charge, less efficient and more dangerous for the longevity of the
battery.
The intensity of the charge must be 1 / 10th of the nominal capacity of the battery (ex: 4 amps per hour for a
40 amps battery) and note that an overload causes water to evaporate (the acid does not evaporate).
Advice: there is a very practical device which maintains the charge of your battery at an optimal level in
complete safety during a prolonged shutdown (as in winter) and which will avoid having a dead battery,
7 b- spark plugs
Large or small caps? no importance and no supply problem. However, the range of thermal choices is wider for
smaller-base plugs which are easier to find (it is possible to use long-base candles in order to make a spark
lower down).
The adaptation of reducers is safe for the motors,
For the thermal degree, always prefer “hot” spark plugs, such as: Bosch M95TI; Champion D16; NGK A6
One figure to remember for the spark plug gap: 0.6 mm.
7 c- Starter
A lubricator is located on the front part; Lubricate with a few drops of fluid oil.
It requires little maintenance. If dismantling, check the cleanliness of the collector, clean the lamellae with a
knife point and check the condition of the carbon brushes.
It happens that a starter gets stuck on the flywheel immobilizing the assembly. To release it, you just need to
turn the starter armature shaft upside down in two ways:
- By engaging second gear and pushing the car back and forth alternately. But be very careful, in this kind of
brutal manoeuvre it is possible to explode the starter or motor housing, or to break a tooth of the pinion.
- By turning the armature using a wrench if it has a square at its end.
Otherwise there is only one solution: its disassembly.

7 d - Dynamo
Lubrication: A few drops of oil in the lubricator placed at the front
In the event of disassembly, systematically check the brushes for wear. Clean the collector if it is clogged with
sandpaper and finish with a saw blade by digging the spaces between the lamellae of the collector.
But for all other operations, contact an auto electrician.
If the dynamo has been modified to operate with a regulator, (by removing the 3rd brush) this must be
adjusted to limit the load to 20 amps maximum.
When the dynamo is working, the battery must also be connected, otherwise there is a risk of the contactor
then the dynamo blowing.
Always keep an eye on the ammeter; a still needle is a bad sign!
