Overview

The Closer Pets MiBowl® and MiBowl+ (models CP500/CP501) are intelligent pet feeders designed to provide controlled access to food for pets, especially in multi-pet households or for pets with specific dietary needs. The MiBowl+ model offers additional features and connectivity with the Closer Pets app via the MiHub (sold separately).

Function Description:

The primary function of both MiBowl models is to dispense food to a designated pet. The feeder utilizes electronic I.D. discs or a pet's existing microchip to identify the authorized pet, opening the lid only when that pet is present. This prevents other pets from accessing the food, ensuring that each pet receives its intended meal. The MiBowl+ model, when connected to the MiHub and Closer Pets app, offers enhanced control and monitoring capabilities.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Source: Both MiBowl models require 4 x C-size batteries for operation.
  • Connectivity (MiBowl+ only): The MiBowl+ connects to the Closer Pets app via the MiHub (available separately). The MiHub requires connection to an internet router. The maximum distance between the MiBowl+ and MiHub, and the MiHub and internet router, is 10 meters.
  • Pet Identification: The feeders work with both microchipped and non-microchipped pets. For non-microchipped pets, an Electronic I.D. Disc is provided to be attached to the pet's collar.
  • Capacity: The feeder includes a main bowl for food. The MiBowl+ also comes with a stainless steel bowl and an ice pack for keeping wet food cooler.
  • Battery Life: Good quality alkaline batteries should typically last up to 6 months. The low battery light only works with standard alkaline batteries.
  • Pairing: Up to 10 pets can be paired with a single feeder.
  • Operating Environment: Designed for indoor use only.

Usage Features:

  • Automatic Lid Opening: The lid automatically opens when an authorized pet is detected via its microchip or Electronic I.D. Disc.
  • Portion Protectors: Clip-on portion protectors are included to help small pets feed in peace and prevent other pets from overeating.
  • Personalized Name Tag and Badges: The feeder includes a name tag and badges for personalization.
  • Training Mode: A dedicated "Training" mode allows the lid to remain open for longer periods, helping pets become comfortable with the feeder. The red light flashes to indicate Training mode is active.
  • Add Pet Mode: A "Add Pet" mode facilitates the pairing process of new pets with the feeder. The red light comes on, and the lid opens during this mode.
  • Standby Mode: Leaving the lid open puts the feeder into Standby mode to preserve battery life. Closing the lid exits Standby mode.
  • Manual Control: The "Open" and "Close" buttons allow for manual operation of the lid. The "Open" button also allows for the removal of the bowl.
  • MiBowl+ App Integration: For MiBowl+, the Closer Pets app provides step-by-step setup instructions, pet management, and potentially additional features like remote monitoring and feeding schedules (requires MiHub).
  • Factory Reset: A combination of button presses (Training + Open + Close for MiBowl®, or Sync + Open + Close for MiBowl+) performs a factory reset, removing all paired pets and training settings.

Maintenance Features:

  • Bowl Cleaning: The main bowl is dishwasher-safe and suitable for the top shelf. It can also be washed with warm soapy water.
  • Lid Cleaning: The lid is hand-wash only using warm soapy water.
  • General Cleaning: The feeder should be lightly cleaned with non-abrasive cleaning products. Avoid spraying or soaking the feeder with liquid cleaning products or water; use a damp cloth.
  • Battery Replacement: Batteries should be replaced when the battery warning light flashes. It is recommended to replace all batteries at the same time.
  • Food Storage: When using wet food, the MiBowl+ should always be used with its ice pack unless the surrounding temperature is below 5°C (40°F). Food should come from a freshly opened package or container. In very warm weather, dry food is recommended for longer preservation.
  • Long-Term Storage: If not using the feeder for an extended period, open the lid to enter standby mode. For periods over 1 week, remove the batteries before packing away.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides guidance for common issues such as the feeder not opening, opening for non-paired pets, lid not opening/blue light flashing, pet knocking over the feeder, lid taking long to close, and pet not using the feeder.
  • Spare Accessories: Stainless steel bowls, ice packs, and other accessories are available for purchase at closerpets.com.
