The FTX Torro EP Trophy Truck is a 1:10th scale brushed electric motor-powered remote-controlled vehicle designed for off-road performance and durability. This model is part of the FTX brand, an exclusive line from CML Distribution, and is engineered to provide an engaging and robust experience for RC enthusiasts.

Function Description

The FTX Torro EP Trophy Truck is a high-performance, remote-controlled trophy truck. Its primary function is to replicate the thrilling experience of driving a full-scale trophy truck, offering dynamic off-road capabilities, speed, and handling. The "EP" in its name signifies "Electric Powered," indicating that it runs on an electric motor and battery system, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, depending on the environment. The truck is designed to tackle various terrains, from dirt tracks and gravel to light obstacles, thanks to its robust suspension and durable construction.

Usage Features

The FTX Torro EP Trophy Truck comes equipped with several features that enhance its usability and performance. It is powered by a 550 brushed motor, providing ample torque and speed for its scale. The power is managed by a 40A speed control unit, which allows for precise throttle input and smooth acceleration. Steering is handled by a 3kg steering servo, ensuring responsive and accurate control, crucial for navigating challenging courses.

The truck features a shaft-driven 4WD system, which distributes power to all four wheels, offering superior traction and control on loose surfaces. This drivetrain configuration is known for its efficiency and robustness in off-road applications. The inclusion of a water-resistant design means that the truck can operate in damp conditions, adding to its versatility and allowing for extended playtime without immediate concern for splashes or light rain.

For control, the truck utilizes an Etronix 3-channel 2.4GHz FHSS radio set, which provides a reliable and interference-free connection between the transmitter and the vehicle. This frequency hopping spread spectrum technology ensures that multiple vehicles can be operated simultaneously without signal conflicts. The 3-channel system allows for basic forward, reverse, left, and right steering, with the potential for additional functions if the third channel is utilized.

The suspension system is designed for off-road performance, featuring front and rear shocks that absorb impacts and maintain tire contact with uneven surfaces. The exploded parts diagrams illustrate a comprehensive suspension setup, including lower suspension arms, shock towers, and various linkages, all contributing to the truck's ability to handle jumps and rough terrain.

The chassis assembly is robust, providing a stable platform for all components. The roll cage and body assembly not only give the truck its distinctive trophy truck look but also offer protection to the internal electronics and chassis during rollovers or collisions. The body is available in printed blue or orange, with a clear body option for custom painting.

Optional performance accessories are available from Fastrax to further enhance the truck's capabilities. These include a black aluminum locking rotating car maintenance stand with a magnet, a round finned motor heatsink for improved thermal management, and an aluminum 32 LED light bar with mounts for night driving or added realism. Fastrax also offers a large shoulder carry bag for convenient transport and a 19-in-1 tool bag for maintenance.

For power, the truck typically uses an 1800mAh NiMH battery, with Etronix Powerpal chargers available for efficient charging. Voltz LiPo stick battery packs are also compatible, offering higher performance and longer run times for those seeking an upgrade.

Maintenance Features

Maintaining the FTX Torro EP Trophy Truck is made easier with the availability of a wide range of spare parts and a detailed exploded parts diagram. The manual provides a comprehensive breakdown of every component, from the smallest screws and bearings to major assemblies like the gearbox, chassis, and suspension. This detailed view is invaluable for troubleshooting, repairs, and upgrades.

The spare parts listing includes individual components for the front assembly, gearbox assembly, steering assembly, servo assembly, central transmission, rear assembly, chassis assembly, and roll cage/body assembly. This modular design allows for targeted repairs, meaning that if a specific part breaks, it can be replaced without needing to purchase an entire assembly.

Key maintenance items such as various screws (button head, cap head, flat head, set screws, ring self-tapping screws), nuts (nylon lock nuts), washers, O-rings, and ball bearings are all listed with their specific sizes and part numbers. This ensures that users can easily identify and order the correct replacements.

For the drivetrain, spare parts include diff drive gears, bevel gears, drive cups, center couplers, and diff pins. Suspension components like shock springs, shock shafts, shock bodies, and lower/upper caps are also available. Steering components, including steering knuckles, steering arms, and servo savers, can be replaced individually.

The manual also lists various aluminum upgrade parts, such as aluminum shock towers, steering ackerman, lower suspension arms, suspension holders, knuckle arms, wheel hubs, motor mounts, and rear axle housings. These aluminum parts offer increased durability and performance over their plastic counterparts, allowing users to customize and reinforce their truck.

Electronic spare parts include the 550 brushed motor, 3kg steering servo, 40A speed control, Etronix 3ch radio set, and Etronix 3ch receiver, ensuring that critical electronic components can be replaced if they fail.

The availability of a maintenance stand and tool bag from Fastrax further supports the maintenance aspect, providing convenient tools and a stable platform for working on the truck. The clear body option also allows for easy access to internal components for cleaning and inspection. Overall, the FTX Torro EP Trophy Truck is designed with both performance and ease of maintenance in mind, making it a suitable choice for hobbyists who enjoy working on their models.
