The ConairCare Infrared Ear Thermometer (Model ITH94F) is a non-sterile, reusable, clinical electronic thermometer designed for monitoring human body temperature in people of all ages, suitable for both home and professional use. It utilizes an infrared sensor to detect energy radiated from the skin and tissue in the ear canal, providing stable and accurate measurements. The device has been cleared by the FDA and tested according to international medical device standards.
The primary function of the ITH94F is to measure body temperature via the ear canal. It detects infrared energy to provide a temperature reading, which is displayed on an LCD screen. The thermometer is equipped with a temperature alert system that beeps to indicate different levels of fever. A slower double beep signals a low-level fever (99.5°F - 101.3°F or 37.5°C - 38.5°C), while a faster triple beep indicates a high-grade fever (101.3°F/38.5°C or above). Temperatures between 96.4°F - 99.4°F (35.8°C - 37.4°C) are generally considered normal. The device also includes a memory function to recall previous readings and an automatic shutdown feature to conserve battery life.
To use the thermometer, first ensure the sensor surface is clean. If visible dust or dirt is present, clean it with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol and allow the alcohol to evaporate before use. It is recommended to wait at least 30 seconds between measurements for accuracy. For babies, if drastic temperature changes are observed, wait a few minutes in the same environment until the baby's body temperature stabilizes. For babies between 3 months and 3 years of age, and for first-time users, it is recommended to take three temperature readings and reference the highest measurement.
Before taking a reading, ensure the thermometer is at room temperature (within 50°F-104°F/10°C-40°C) for at least 30 minutes, especially if it has been stored outside this range or near heat sources, fans, or AC units. Ear wax residue can lead to inaccurate readings, so it is advisable to clean the ear prior to use. Avoid strenuous exercise for at least 30 minutes before taking your temperature.
To turn on the device, press the power button. The screen will show segments, turn blue, and display the last measurement. When "000.0" appears and a beep is heard, the thermometer is ready. Remove the clear cap from the sensor probe. Straighten the ear canal by gently pulling the middle of the ear back and up. Place the probe firmly into the ear canal and press the SCAN/M button. A short beep will sound. Keep the probe in the ear until a longer beep signals the completion of the measurement. For consistent results, always take the temperature in the same ear and insert the device to a similar depth. Do not add a protective sleeve to the sensor, as this may affect accuracy.
The thermometer allows users to select between Fahrenheit (°F) and Celsius (°C) units. With the device off, press and hold the SCAN/M button for 5 seconds to display the current units. Press SCAN/M again to switch. The device will turn off after a few seconds.
The memory recall function allows users to view up to 32 previous readings. With the thermometer off, press the SCAN/M button. The memory icon (M in an oval) will flash. Press SCAN/M consecutively to scroll through stored readings. After viewing all, the display will return to the initial reading.
The ITH94F is designed with precision parts and should not be dismantled, re-assembled, or modified. Avoid dropping the thermometer or subjecting it to strong impacts. If the sensor is broken, do not attempt to repair it; contact the customer service center.
For cleaning and maintenance, wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth after each use. If dirty, a damp cloth moistened with water or neutral detergent can be used, followed by a dry cloth. Avoid getting water into the thermometer body to prevent damage to internal electronic components. The thermometer features antibacterial plastic, proven to reduce surface bacteria. For additional contamination concerns, clean the thermometer with 75% alcohol before and after use, using only a small amount to avoid damaging electronics. Do not use volatile oil, paint thinner, or other chemical solvents.
The thermometer operates on 2 AAA alkaline batteries. When the battery icon flashes, it indicates low battery and replacement is needed. To replace, open the battery cover on the back of the handle, remove old batteries, and install new ones, ensuring correct polarity. Dispose of old batteries properly. If not used for more than 3 months, remove batteries to prevent damage from fluid leakage. Battery contacts should be clean before installation. Never recharge non-rechargeable batteries, mix old and new batteries, or put batteries into fire. Keep batteries away from children and seek medical help if ingested. Do not open, crush, puncture, or disassemble batteries. Dispose of batteries according to state and local regulations.
The device should be stored in a dry and dust-free environment, away from direct sunlight, ideally within a storage temperature range of 4°F to 131°F (-20°C to 55°C). Check the equipment casing for damage before each use; do not use if damaged. The sensor head is fragile and should be handled with care during cleaning. The device requires no calibration.
