Overview

This document describes the Conair Model CLS1 battery-operated fabric defuzzer, a device designed to remove fuzz, lint, and pilling from textiles.

Function Description:

The fabric defuzzer is a handheld, battery-operated appliance that uses a rotating blade system to gently shave off unwanted fuzz, lint, and pilling from various fabrics. The device features an adjustable distance ring that allows users to control the distance between the shaver head and the fabric, accommodating different fabric types and levels of pilling. Fuzz and lint are collected in a removable fuzz collector for easy disposal.

Important Safety Instructions:

  • The appliance must not come into contact with water.
  • Do not use on damp textiles.
  • Exercise caution when using on structured textiles or very soft materials like Angora wool, as the defuzzer might cause damage.
  • Always test the defuzzer on an inconspicuous area of the item first. When testing, set the distance ring to the highest level to minimize potential damage.
  • The blades are extremely sharp and can be easily damaged, so handle with care during cleaning.

Usage Features:

Getting Started:

  1. Place the item to be treated on an even surface.
  2. Adjust the distance ring to the appropriate position or remove it entirely, depending on the desired closeness of the shave. The distance ring has settings for "large," "medium," and "small" to accommodate different fabric textures and pilling sizes.
  3. Switch the unit ON using the On/Off switch.

Operation:

  • Without applying pressure, run the shaver head lightly over the areas from which you wish to remove fuzz.
  • Fuzz will accumulate in the fuzz collector during operation.
  • After use, switch the unit OFF.

Battery Installation:

The defuzzer operates on two (2) AA batteries (not included).

  1. To open the battery compartment, slide the mark on the battery compartment lid against the marking arrow on the handle to the "o" position and lift it off.
  2. Insert the two AA batteries, ensuring that the +/- terminals on each battery match the markings inside the compartment.
  3. Place the battery cover back on and turn it in the direction of the "•" until it engages audibly.

Instructions for Using Batteries:

  • Always purchase the correct size and grade of battery suitable for the intended use.
  • Replace all batteries at the same time.
  • Do not mix old and new batteries.
  • Do not mix alkaline, standard (carbon-zinc), or rechargeable (nickel-cadmium) batteries.
  • Clean battery contacts on both the device and the batteries prior to installation.
  • Ensure batteries are installed correctly with regard to polarity (+ and -).
  • Remove batteries from equipment not in use for extended periods.
  • Remove depleted batteries promptly.

Disposal of Batteries:

Dispose of old batteries in accordance with applicable regulations. They should be disposed of in a designated location for safe recycling, without posing environmental risks. Do not burn or bury them.

Maintenance Features:

Emptying the Fuzz Collector:

  • The fuzz collector should be emptied regularly and before it becomes overfilled, as overfilling can cause the unit to slow down or stop.
  • To empty, slide the fuzz collector downward and out of the unit.
  • Empty the collected fuzz and slide the collector straight back into the unit until it engages audibly. If the unit slows or stops, check and empty the fuzz collector before replacing batteries.

Cleaning the Fabric Defuzzer and Shaver Head:

  1. Remove the batteries from the appliance before cleaning.
  2. Remove the distance ring.
  3. Turn the shaver head counterclockwise to remove it.
  4. Brush out any residual fuzz using a small cleaning brush.
  5. Reattach the shaver head and then fit the distance ring.
  6. If necessary, wipe off the unit casing with a slightly dampened cloth.

Removing and Fitting the Distance Ring:

To Remove:

  • Grasp both sides of the distance ring and pull it off the unit in the direction of the arrow indicated in the diagram.

To Fit:

  • Push the distance ring onto the unit, ensuring that the recess on the distance ring engages the lug on the body of the shaver. This mechanism prevents the distance ring from twisting when adjusted.
