Overview

This document describes the Contoure Mid-Size 0.9/1.0 Cu.Ft. Built-In Black Microwave Oven, models RV-933BK and RV-980B. It serves as an instruction manual, providing important information on installation, operation, care, and maintenance. The microwave oven is designed for food preparation and is not intended for industrial or laboratory use.

Function Description

The Contoure microwave oven is a cooking appliance designed to heat and cook food efficiently. It features a control panel with various buttons for different cooking functions and settings. The oven operates using microwave energy, which heats food by causing water molecules within it to vibrate.

Key Cooking Functions:

  • Time Cook: Allows users to set a specific cooking duration. The maximum cooking time is 99 minutes and 99 seconds.
  • Power Levels: Offers 10 different power levels (PL1 to PL10, ranging from 10% to 100%) to adjust the intensity of microwave heating, providing flexibility for various food types and cooking needs.
  • Time Defrost: Defrosts food based on a set time. The oven will beep halfway through to remind the user to turn the food over for even defrosting.
  • Weight Defrost: Defrosts food based on its weight, with a range of 4-1000 ounces.
  • Auto Menus: Includes pre-programmed settings for common foods such as Popcorn, Potato, Pizza, Frozen Vegetable, Beverage, and Dinner Plate (Re-Heat), simplifying cooking by automatically setting optimal times and power levels.
  • Express Cooking: Provides a shortcut for quick cooking, allowing users to select cooking times in 1 to 6-minute increments or 30-second increments with a single button press. The power level for express cooking is preset to 100%.
  • Multiple Stage Cooking: Supports two stages of cooking, typically defrosting followed by microwave cooking. The defrost stage is automatically set as the first stage.
  • Kitchen Timer: Functions as a standalone timer, allowing users to set a countdown without activating the microwave cooking function.
  • Memory Function: Allows users to save frequently used cooking settings for quick access.
  • Start/+30Sec. Button: Initiates cooking and can add 30 seconds to the cooking time during operation (up to 99 minutes and 99 seconds).
  • Stop/Cancel Button: Stops or cancels a cooking program, clears selections, or turns off the kitchen timer.

Usage Features

The microwave oven is designed with user convenience and safety in mind.

Display and Controls:

  • The LED display shows the time, cooking duration, and other relevant information.
  • The control panel features clearly labeled buttons for easy operation.
  • The clock can be set to a 12-hour format (1:00 to 12:59).

Cooking Guidance:

  • Food Placement: Food and containers should always be placed on the glass turntable for cooking. Delicate areas of food should be placed towards the center of the turntable. Unevenly shaped foods should have thicker or fatter parts towards the outside.
  • Stirring and Turning: Stirring foods (like casseroles or vegetables) from outside to center helps distribute heat evenly and speeds up cooking. Some foods may need to be turned over halfway through cooking for even results.
  • Standing Time: After cooking, covering food with foil or a casserole lid and allowing it to stand helps finish cooking in the center and prevents overcooking of outer edges.
  • Moisture Content: Foods with more moisture cook more evenly. Wrapping foods like sandwiches (with prebaked bread) helps prevent drying out.
  • Temperature of Food: Foods taken from the freezer or refrigerator will take longer to cook than those at room temperature.
  • Food Size and Shape: Smaller pieces of food cook more quickly. Foods of similar size and shape cook more evenly when cooked together. Reducing power levels for larger pieces of food can improve evenness.

Specific Auto Menu Instructions:

  • Popcorn: Select the popcorn bag's weight (3.3 Oz, 3.0 Oz, or 1.75 Oz). Only use microwave-safe popcorn bags.
  • Beverage: Heats 1 to 3 cups of beverage. Select the number of servings.
  • Potato: Pierce the potato and place it directly on the turntable, optionally lined with a paper towel.
  • Dinner Plate (Re-Heat): Reheats precooked foods. Keep larger portions and vegetables towards the outside of the plate. Dense foods reheat better if flattened. Use microwave-safe lids or plastic wrap. Reheat only one plate at a time.
  • Fresh / Frozen Vegetables: For corn, peas, carrots, or most beans, add 1 tablespoon of water per 1-cup serving. For cruciferous vegetables, do not add water; cook immediately after washing. Use a microwave-safe lid for softer vegetables. After cooking, stir, cover, and let stand for at least 5 minutes.

Child Lock:

  • To lock the microwave, press and hold "STOP/CLEAR" for three seconds. A lock indicator will appear.
  • To unlock, press and hold "STOP/CLEAR" for approximately three seconds until the lock indicator disappears.

Oven Light:

  • The oven light can be turned on or off using the "SURFACE LIGHT ON/OFF" button.

Maintenance Features

Proper care and maintenance are crucial for the appliance's longevity and safe operation.

Cleaning the Oven:

  • Regular Cleaning: The oven interior and accessories should be cleaned regularly for hygienic reasons.
  • Exterior Cleaning: Clean the outside surface with mild soap and a clean damp cloth, then dry with a soft cloth. Avoid letting water seep into vents or openings.
  • Interior Cleaning: Wipe the oven interior with a soft cloth and warm (not hot) mild detergent solution, then rinse and wipe completely dry.
  • Spill Management: Wipe up spills immediately with a damp, clean cloth and mild soap. Avoid harsh detergents or abrasive cleaners.
  • Stubborn Stains: To loosen baked-on food particles, heat 2 cups of water (with optional lemon juice for freshness) in a 4-cup measuring glass at High power for 5 minutes or until boiling. Let it stand for 1-2 minutes before cleaning.
  • Turntable Tray: Remove the glass turntable tray for cleaning. Wash it in warm sudsy water or in the dishwasher. Handle with care to prevent breakage, especially after cooking when it's hot.
  • Door Window: Wash with very mild soap and water, using a soft, clean cloth to avoid scratching.
  • Condensation: If steam accumulates inside or outside the oven door, wipe it with a soft cloth. This is normal in high humidity and does not indicate microwave leakage.
  • Control Panel: Wipe down the control panel with a damp cloth and dry it thoroughly.
  • Stainless-Steel Interior: The oven's stainless-steel interior is designed for easy sanitization. Use only mild, non-abrasive soaps or detergents with a soft cloth or sponge.

Safety Precautions During Cleaning:

  • Disconnect Power: ALWAYS unplug the appliance before cleaning to prevent electrical shock.
  • Avoid Steam Cleaners: NEVER use a steam cleaner, as moisture can accumulate in electrical components, posing a shock hazard. Hot vapors can also damage plastic parts.
  • Ensure Dryness: The appliance must be completely dry before plugging it back in.
  • No Abrasives: DO NOT use abrasive cleaners on any part of the microwave.
  • No Commercial Oven Cleaners: DO NOT use commercial oven cleaners on any part of the microwave.
  • Turntable Handling: DO NOT drop the turntable or shaft. Ensure the turntable, turntable shaft, and ring assembly are properly in place before operating the oven.
  • Empty Operation: Never operate the oven without food in the cavity, as this can damage the magnetron tube or glass tray. Leaving a cup of water inside when not in use can help prevent accidental damage if the oven is turned on.

General Maintenance:

  • Keep the inner door panel and oven free from food and grease build-up for optimal performance and safety.
  • Ensure ventilation openings are clear of obstructions.
  • The appliance should only be serviced by qualified service technicians. DO NOT attempt to disassemble or repair the appliance yourself, as touching internal components can cause serious injury or death.
