Overview

This document is an instruction manual for the CRAFTWORX Household Vacuum Sealer, model number 1A-DS217. It provides detailed information on the construction, functions, operating instructions, cleaning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the device. The manual is presented in both English and French.

Function Description:

The CRAFTWORX Household Vacuum Sealer is designed for vacuum packaging food items to extend their shelf life. It offers both vacuum sealing for bags and vacuum packaging for canisters and vacuum bowls. The device features automatic and manual sealing options, a pulse vacuum function for delicate items, and specific settings for different food types (dry/moist).

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Rated Power: 120V~ 60Hz, 110W

Construction and Functions (English Section):

The device features several key components:

  1. Vacuum & Seal / Cancel Button: This button has two functions. At stand-by, it initiates the automatic vacuuming and sealing process. During operation, it stops the machine.
  2. Manual Seal Button: This button allows for manual sealing of bags without vacuuming, useful for creating bags from a roll. When vacuuming, pressing this button stops the motor pump and immediately seals the bag, preventing crushing of delicate items.
  3. Pulse Button: This button initiates vacuuming. Pressing it repeatedly allows for controlled vacuum pressure, stopping when the desired pressure is achieved, then switching to heat-seal. This is ideal for delicate items like tomatoes or chips, or moist items where only air drainage is desired.
  4. Canister Button: Used to start vacuuming for canisters, jar lids, wine stoppers, or other accessories via a hose.
  5. Food Type Button: Offers two settings for sealing time:
    • Dry: For dry bags and items without moisture, with a shorter heat sealing time.
    • Moist: For wet bags or foods with a little moisture, with a longer heat sealing time.
  6. Hose Port: An inlet for inserting the hose adaptor to connect to canisters and wine stoppers.
  7. Handle: Used to lock the cover to the base.
  8. Hose Adaptor: Connects the vacuum canister and machine for vacuuming purposes.
  9. Gasket: Forms a vacuum chamber and keeps air away. It should be cleaned and dried regularly or replaced if distorted or broken.
  10. Air Intake: Connects with the vacuum chamber and pump. It should not be covered during vacuum and seal operations.
  11. Sealing Element: A Teflon-coated heating element that seals the bag.

Usage Features:

  • Making a Bag with a Bag Roll:
    1. Cut a bag from a roll using scissors.
    2. Place one end of the bag on the sealing element, outside the vacuum chamber.
    3. Close the cover and press the handle to lock it.
    4. Press the "Manual Seal" button to seal the bag. The indicator light shows sealing in progress.
    5. Once the light turns off, the sealing is complete. Open the cover and remove the bag.
  • Vacuum Packaging with a Bag:
    1. Place items inside a special designed vacuum bag with vacuum channels (supplied by Craftworx).
    2. Clean and straighten the open end of the bag, ensuring no dust, wrinkles, or ripples.
    3. Place the open end of the bag within the vacuum chamber area, ensuring the air intake is not covered.
    4. Close the cover and press the handle to lock it.
    5. Check the LED status of the "food" setting (standard/extended) based on moisture content.
    6. Press the "Vacuum & Seal / Cancel" button. The unit will automatically vacuum and seal the bag. The indicator light and progress LED will show the process.
    7. For delicate items, press the "Manual Seal" button immediately when the desired vacuum pressure is achieved to prevent crushing.
    8. When the indicator light turns off, vacuum packaging is done. Open the cover and remove the bag.
  • Pulse/Vacuum Function:
    1. Select "standard" for dry raw materials or "extended" for moist contents using the food button.
    2. Press the "Pulse Vacuum" button several times to achieve the desired vacuum effect for delicate items (e.g., tomatoes, chips) or to drain air from moist raw materials/sauces without compressing the liquid.
    3. Then press the "Manual Seal" button to seal the bag.
  • Vacuum Package in a Canister & Vacuum Bowl:
    1. Ensure canister cover and base are clean and dry.
    2. Place items in the canister, ensuring it's not overfilled and the cover can make good contact with the rim. Clean the cover rim and bottom seal gasket.
    3. Insert one end of the hose adaptor into the air intake and the other end onto the canister cover.
    4. Press the "Canister" button to start vacuuming. Lightly press down on the cover at the beginning to ensure no air leakage. The machine stops automatically when sufficient vacuum pressure is reached.
    5. Remove the hose adaptor from the canister and machine.
  • Opening a Canister after Vacuum Packaging: Press the "Release" button on the canister cover.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning the Vacuum Sealer:
    1. Always unplug before cleaning.
    2. Do not immerse in water or other liquids.
    3. Avoid abrasive products that could scratch the surface.
    4. Use mild dishwashing soap and a warm, damp cloth to wipe away food residue.
    5. Dry thoroughly before reuse.
    6. Ensure foam gaskets around the vacuum chamber are thoroughly dried and reassembled in their original position to prevent vacuum leaks.
  • Cleaning Vacuum Bags:
    1. Wash bags in warm water with mild dishwashing soap.
    2. For dishwashers, turn bags inside out and spread them over the top rack for full exposure to water.
    3. Dry thoroughly before reusing.
    4. Important: Do not reuse bags after storing raw meats, raw fish, greasy foods, or bags that have been microwaved, boiled, or sous vide cooked, to avoid illness.
  • Storing Your Vacuum Sealer:
    1. Store in a flat, safe place, out of reach of children.
    2. Ensure the lid is unlocked when not in use to prevent distortion of foam gaskets, which could cause leaks.
  • Cord Storage: Store the power cord in the designated area at the back of the machine when not in use. Do not wrap the cord around the appliance.

Important Safeguards:

The manual emphasizes several safety precautions:

  • Always unplug the cord when not in use or before cleaning.
  • The appliance is not a toy; supervise children closely.
  • Use only recommended attachments.
  • Stop using immediately if the cord is damaged and have it replaced by a professional.
  • Do not attempt to repair the appliance yourself.
  • Do not use if the appliance has fallen or appears damaged.
  • Avoid pulling or carrying by the cord, using the cord as a handle, closing a door on the cord, or pulling the cord around sharp edges.
  • Do not operate over a wet cord or plug.
  • Keep away from hot surfaces.
  • Use a short power-supply cord to reduce entanglement risks. If an extension cord is used, ensure its electrical rating is not less than the product's, and arrange it to avoid snagging or tripping.
  • Always grasp the plug, not the cord, when disconnecting.
  • Ensure hands are dry before plugging in or operating.
  • Place the machine on a stable surface.
  • No lubricants are needed.
  • Do not immerse in water for cleaning.
  • For household, indoor use only; do not use outdoors or on wet surfaces.
  • Not intended for use by persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience, unless supervised.
  • Close supervision is required when used near children.
  • Damaged supply cords must be replaced by the manufacturer or a qualified person.
  • Cleaning and maintenance should not be performed by children without supervision.
  • The product has a polarized plug (one blade wider than the other) to reduce electric shock risk. Contact a qualified electrician if it doesn't fit a polarized outlet; do not modify the plug.

Troubleshooting:

The manual includes a troubleshooting guide for common issues:

  • Vacuuming but seal function not working: Check for liquid/oil/debris on the bag edge, damaged heating element, damaged sealing strip, wrinkled bag, or deformed gasket.
  • Seal function is good but not vacuuming: Check if bags are placed in the vacuum chamber, if food has sharp edges (wrap with food-grade paper), or if the bag edge covers the suction hole.
  • Bag inflation after vacuuming: Easy corrosion foods should be frozen or refrigerated after vacuuming. Check if fresh vegetables, fruits, or seeds were packed (these are not suitable for room temperature storage after vacuuming due to photosynthesis and respiration; store in a refrigerator).
  • The bag melts: Check if the sealing time is too long; reset if necessary.

Disposal of the Device:

The product should not be treated as household waste. It should be handed over to an applicable collection point for the recycling of electrical and electronic equipment. Correct disposal helps prevent negative environmental and health consequences. Contact local council or waste disposal service for more information.
