10 • MT200 Series Locators
Rough search
Hold the device at a 45° angle to the ground surface and scan the ground area to be examined in a
zigzag pattern. (Fig. 7)
Ensure even ground clearance!
Detailed search
If a ferromagnetic item is recognised, the device must be held vertically to the ground surface and
the centre of the item determined using short, crossing movements. (Fig. 8)
ITEM RECOGNITION
Visual LCD display
The value displayed between 0 an 99 enables conclusions to be drawn regarding location depth,
distance and size of the item detected. This value is displayed both as a bar diagram and as a
numerical value. (Fig. 9)
Acoustic display
Similar to the visual display, the acoustic loudspeaker signal changes too. The low standard tone’s
level and volume change if a ferromagnetic item is detected.
Blanking undesired items
When searching for ferromagnetic items in the vicinity of metallic fencing, iron bars, reinforced
steel walls, vehicles, railway tracks etc, they must be suppressed.
The Magna-Trak 202 and its “Erase” feature solves this problem by providing an Erase
Button; simply press this button when an object is interfering with the object of interest.
The sensitivity is automatically adjusted to enhance the detection of the object of
interest. As the ferrous properties of the interfering object changes, the ERASE button can simply
be pressed again to either increase or decrease sensitivity to enhance the detection of the object
of interest.
Pressing the ERASE button adjusts the sensitivity level to 60. If the interfering object causes the
sensitivity reading to approach 99, pressing the button will reduce sensitivity to a reading of 60. If
the sensitivity reading drops below 60, pressing the button will increase sensitivity to 60.
