Connecting and disconnecting the
ESC and TCS

The ESC is switched on automatically when the
engine is started, and only works when the en-
gine is running and includes the ABS, EDS and
TCS systems.
The TCS function should only be switched o
in situations in which traction is insuicient.
Depending on the nishes and versions, there
is the possibility of disconnecting only the TCS
or activating the ESC in “Sport” mode, or turn-
ing o the ESC.
Disconnecting and connecting the TCS

The TCS can be switched on and o by
briey pressing the button on the centre
console ›››Fig.121.
When the TCS is disconnected, the control
warning light lights up on the instrument
cluster.
Disconnecting and connecting the ESC in
“Sport” mode
●
In Sport mode, the ESC can be switched o
and on by briey pressing the button on the
centre console ›››Fig.121.
When “Sport” mode is connected, the inter-
ventions of the ESC to stabilise the vehicle,
and the traction control (TCS) interventions
are limited. In vehicles with 4-wheel drive, the
TCS is disconnected completely . In addition,
the
control lamp lights up on the instrument
cluster.
Disconnecting and connecting the ESC

The ESC can be switched on and o by
briey pressing the button on the centre
console ›››Fig.121.
When the ESC is disconnected the control
lamps and light up on the dash panel.
ESC in “Oroad” mode
Select the Oroad prole to switch it on
›››page185. The interventions of the TCS,
as well as of the EDS and the ABS system adapt
to irregular terrain.
In the following exceptional situations it may
make sense to activate the Oroad mode to
allow the wheels to spin:

When swinging the vehicle to get it out of
mud/snow.
●
Driving in deep snow or on loose surfaces.
●
When driving on uneven ground with one or
two wheels in the air (axle articulation).
●
Steep descents while braking on unpaved
terrain.
For your safety we recommend that you turn
o the Oroad mode when it is not absolutely
necessary.
To disconnect the Oroad mode, select a dif-
ferent driving mode.
ESC in “Snow” mode
Select the Snow prole to switch it on
›››page185. TCS interventions adjust to the
adhesion of snowy roads.
To disconnect the Snow mode, select a dier-
ent driving mode.
WARNING
The ESC Sport mode should only be switched
on if the traic situation and the driver’s abil-
ity allow it. Danger of skidding!

With ESC in Sport mode, the stabilising
function will be limited or fully deactivated
(depending on the model version) for sport-
ier driving. The vehicle may skid.
●
If ESC is deactivated, the vehicle stabilisa-
tion function is not available.
