Overview

The Cuprinol Fence Sprayer is a user-friendly, pump-up sprayer specifically designed for the application of Cuprinol's range of sprayable wood treatments. This device aims to provide a fast and easy way to treat garden wood, including fences, sheds, and gates, ensuring a continuous and controllable spray for an even finish. It is backed by a 3-year guarantee, reflecting its intended durability and reliability when used as directed.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Cuprinol Fence Sprayer is to facilitate the efficient and effective application of specific Cuprinol wood treatments. It operates by manual pressurization, allowing the user to spray the treatment onto surfaces without the need for external power sources. The sprayer is designed to hold one 5-litre pack of Cuprinol Sprayable Treatments, with a 4-litre indicator on the outside of the tank to guide refilling and prevent overfilling.

The spraying mechanism involves a pump-up system where the user pressurizes the tank by pumping a handle. Once optimal pressure is reached, a pressure release valve (269) activates, indicating readiness for spraying. The breakthrough nozzle technology is engineered to deliver a continuous and controllable spray pattern, which is crucial for achieving an even and professional finish on various wood surfaces.

The sprayer is intended for use with the following Cuprinol products:

  • Cuprinol Sprayable Fence Treatment
  • Cuprinol Decking Oil and Protector (WB)
  • Cuprinol Shades
  • Cuprinol Ducksback Sprayable

It is explicitly stated that the sprayer is not to be used with:

  • Any other treatments, whether water-based or solvent-based.
  • Wood preservers, creosote, or creosote alternatives.
  • Any agrochemicals (insecticides, fungicides, herbicides).
  • Any application other than the recommended treatments.

Using the sprayer with unapproved products will not only result in a disappointing finish but also invalidate the product's guarantee.

Important Technical Specifications:

While specific numerical technical specifications like pressure ratings or flow rates are not explicitly detailed in the provided manual, several design and component details are highlighted:

  • Capacity: Designed to hold one 5-litre pack of Cuprinol Sprayable Treatments, with a 4-litre indicator for refilling.
  • Nozzle Technology: Features "breakthrough nozzle technology" for continuous, controllable spray. The nozzle assembly includes components like the nozzle (665), pre-orifice (666), and filter (664), which are designed for optimal spray performance.
  • Pressure Release Valve (269): An integral safety and operational feature that releases excess air when optimum pressure is reached and must be checked for proper function before each use. It also serves as the mechanism for safely releasing pressure before opening the sprayer.
  • Hose (992): Connects the sprayer tank to the handset (166), ensuring fluid delivery to the nozzle.
  • Pumping Mechanism: Consists of a handle (407), chamber (406), and piston (921), designed for manual pressurization. A collar seal (164) is part of this mechanism, which benefits from lubrication.
  • Components: The manual provides a detailed parts list with item numbers, codes, quantities, and descriptions for all individual components, facilitating identification for maintenance and replacement. Key components include various gaskets (e.g., 101, 159, 167, 349, 608), cone nuts (127, 138), chamber valve (165), tank (265), nut (291), hose bushings (292), lance filter (346), handle body (356), filter spring (363), elbow (414), and the complete handle (743) and cylinder (921) assemblies.

Usage Features:

The Cuprinol Fence Sprayer is designed with several features to ensure ease of use and effective application:

  • Assembly: Most components are pre-assembled. Initial setup involves securely attaching the hose to the sprayer tank and handset. Users are advised to test for proper delivery and tightness with water before first use.
  • Filling: Simple process of removing the lid and pouring the treatment into the sprayer. The 4-litre indicator helps prevent overfilling. It is crucial to shake the pack of sprayable treatments thoroughly before filling.
  • Pressurization: Achieved by pumping the handle up and down with two hands. The pressure release valve (269) indicates when optimum pressure is reached by releasing air and showing a red indicator.
  • Spraying Technique:
    • Recommended distance: Approximately 15-30 cm (6-12 inches) from the fence panel.
    • Method: Start by spraying edges and vertical struts, then the center. Use a slow, sweeping motion, spraying horizontally and overlapping approximately half of the previous pass for an even finish.
    • Pace: Begin slowly and gradually increase pace. Spraying too quickly can lead to an uneven finish, while spraying too slowly can cause runs, which should be brushed into the wood.
    • Overspray: While the sprayer has a controlled spray pattern, some overspray may occur. This can be minimized by avoiding windy conditions and using a cardboard or plastic shield. Any overspray should be cleaned with water and household detergent, and excessive spillage on plants should be rinsed off.
  • Re-pressurization: Users are instructed to re-pressurize to maximum pressure when the spray pattern "tails off."
  • Blocked Nozzle Management: In case of partial blockage, users can release pressure, unscrew the retainer (291), remove nozzle components (665, 666) and filter (664), and wash them with water to clear any fluid traces.
  • Finishing: Unused treatment can be sprayed directly back into its original pack for storage.
  • Pressure Release: It is mandatory to release all pressure via the pressure release valve (269) before refilling, after use, or before opening the sprayer. The sprayer should never be left pressurized when not in use. Users are cautioned not to tamper with the pressure release valve.

Maintenance Features:

The Cuprinol Fence Sprayer incorporates features and guidelines to ensure its longevity and continued performance:

  • Cleaning:
    • After use, fill the sprayer with water and reseal.
    • Shake the sprayer and repressurize.
    • Spray the water into an empty container until the waste water runs clear.
    • Do not dispose of washings into drains or watercourses.
    • Thoroughly clean filters (346, 664) and the seal (165) under running water with a hard bristle brush.
    • Avoid using wire, pins, or sharp objects to clean the nozzle (665, 666) to prevent damage and maintain spray pattern.
    • Ensure all parts of the trigger mechanism (743, 990, 991) are clean.
  • Storage:
    • Ensure all liquid is completely drained from the sprayer and hose.
    • It is best to detach the hose (992) from the sprayer tank and handset during storage.
    • To avoid losing smaller components, it is recommended to attach 990, 901, and 743 together.
  • Lubrication: A few drops of lubricating oil in the pumping mechanism (406) will protect the collar seal (164).
  • Component Checks: Before each use and after storage, check all component parts for excessive wear and tear or damage. Damaged parts must not be used.
  • Replacement Parts: Only authorized replacement components should be used. A detailed parts list is provided to aid in identifying specific components for replacement.
  • Repairs: All repairs must be carried out by an authorized service agent.
  • Guarantee: The 3-year guarantee covers the complete sprayer or individual components against manufacturing or material faults. It does not cover damage from misuse, improper handling, unauthorized modifications, normal wear and tear, negligence, or use with unapproved products.
  • Disposal: Dispose of the sprayer according to local authority guidelines.

The Cuprinol Fence Sprayer is a dedicated tool designed to simplify and improve the application of specific Cuprinol wood treatments, emphasizing user safety, effective performance, and ease of maintenance.
