Overview

This document provides installation and owner's manual information for a Curtis cab designed for the Kubota B3200 tractor. The manual covers both hard-sided (p/n 1KB32AS) and soft-sided (p/n 1KB32SS) cab versions.

Function Description

The Curtis cab is an enclosure designed to provide weather protection for the operator of a Kubota B3200 tractor. It features an assembly of parts that require adjustment and alignment to accommodate vehicle variations and ensure proper weather sealing. The cab enhances operator comfort and extends the usability of the tractor in various weather conditions.

Important Technical Specifications

The installation process is estimated to take 2 to 3 hours, excluding accessories. The cab adds additional weight to the base vehicle, and users are advised to deduct this weight from the vehicle's rated capacity to avoid exceeding it. The cab enclosure does not provide protection from rollover, other accidents, flying objects (including golf balls), or lightning. Users are warned to take cover and not operate the vehicle if lightning threatens. The windshield hinges are plastic components and should not be overtightened, with a maximum torque of 7 foot-pounds. Door hinge bolts should be tightened to 40 inch-pounds to avoid crushing the structural tubing.

Usage Features

Vehicle Preparation:

  • Removal of the optional tool box and clamps from the roll bar (if equipped).
  • Removal of both grab handles.
  • Removal of both turn signal lights from the fenders, with wires identified for easier re-connection.

Cab Assembly:

  • Vibration Mounts: Rubber vibration mounts are installed on the outer surface of the roll bar mounts, oriented with the bend down. These are secured with 1/4-20 x 1" button head bolts, steel washers, and locknuts.
  • Roll Bar Brackets: Roll bar brackets and mounts are loosely installed to the R.O.P.S. tubing, approximately 14" up from the fender and 36" up from the fender. The rubber vibration mount should be against the front surface of the tubing, and the bent end of the part should be forward and outboard. Hardware includes 5/16-18 x 1" carriage bolts, steel washers, and locknuts.
  • Hard Rear Panel (Standard for Hard-Sided, Optional for Soft-Sided): Placed on the tractor in front of the R.O.P.S. tubing with the window towards the rear. Bulb rubber on the bottom sides should point forward. Removable pins for the fold-down R.O.P.S. must be oriented for easy outboard removal. If not installing a hard rear panel on a soft-sided cab, snaps from the rear edge of the roof should be removed.
  • Cowl: Positioned over the hood with the top channel bend towards the rear. The bulb rubber seal around the hood area should point forward. The lower bent flange of the cowl sits on top of the rubber floor mat.
  • Side Frame Installation: Doors are removed for easier installation. The left side frame is installed so the floorboard sits on top of the rubber floor mat and the bent flange of the cowl. The mounting tab on the side frame fits into the cowl's bent channel. Bulb rubber sealing against the rear fender should point outboard to minimize covering factory decals.
    • Horizontal bolts (three 5/16-18 x 3/4" button head bolts, nylon washers, steel washers) are installed into factory threaded inserts in the front of the side frame tubing.
    • The top corner of the cowl is clamped to the side frame, and a vertical bolt (one 5/16-18 x 3/4" button head bolt, two steel washers, one locknut) is installed and tightened.
    • The back side of the side frame is attached to the roll bar bracket assembly using 5/16-18 x 1" button head bolts, nylon washers, and steel washers.
    • For hard rear panel installations, two additional 5/16-18 x 3/4" button head bolts, nylon washers, and steel washers are used for the remaining threaded inserts on the back of the side frame.
    • The process is repeated for the opposite side frame.
    • New Kubota decals can be repositioned if required.
  • Windshield Support: Installed to the top front corner of the side frames, with bent flanges on the bottom. Lower holes use 5/16-18 x 1" button head bolts, two steel washers, one nylon washer, and one locknut. Upper holes are left empty for roof installation.
  • Windshield: Hinges are installed to the windshield support with two 3/4" thick plastic spacer blocks between the hinge and support. Latches are attached to receivers on the cowl. The windshield is lifted, latches are closed, and alignment with side frames is checked. Hinge hardware is tightened to a maximum of 7 foot-pounds. Lower windshield support bolts are also tightened.
  • Roof: Holes are punched through the headliner from the inside out. The roof is installed with reflectors towards the rear. Front corners use 5/16-18 x 1" button head bolts, two steel washers, one nylon washer, and one locknut. Middle side and rear corner bolt locations use 5/16-18 x 3/4" button head bolts, two steel washers, and two nylon washers. Middle front holes use 5/16-18 x 3/4" button head bolts, four steel washers, two nylon washers, and two locknuts.
  • Tighten All Bolts: All bolts, including carriage bolts on the roll bar brackets, are tightened. The roll bar brackets should be parallel or perpendicular to the R.O.P.S. tubing. Two 3/8" diameter holes are drilled through the side frame floorboard into the tractor floor (checking for obstructions underneath). Two 5/16-18 x 1" button head bolts, four steel washers, and two locknuts are installed per side, with locknuts underneath the tractor.
  • Rear Curtain (Soft-Sided Cabs): Six snaps on the rear curtain are assembled to the roof snaps. The sides of the rear curtain are dry-fitted to the inner surface of the side frame rear vertical tubing. Supplied 1" wide hook velcro is installed to a clean, dry surface, and the curtain is attached.
  • Under Seat Filler: The seat is tipped forward, and the vinyl filler is positioned with seat belt brackets passing through slit openings. Supplied 1" wide hook velcro is applied to the fenders and the top middle section of the filler (attaching to the soft rear curtain or hard rear panel).
  • Doors: Pin hinges are greased, and doors are re-installed. Adjustments are made to ensure the door top is parallel with the roof side and the latch clicks twice for full engagement. The striker bolt and nut can be loosened and reset for better engagement and seal. Hinge bolts (1/4-20 hex head bolts) can be loosened to rotate or move the door for alignment, then tightened to 40 inch-pounds. The inside latch can be moved forward or back for proper engagement.
    • Soft-Sided Doors: Vinyl coated cable door stops are installed between upper brackets on doors and side frames using 5/16-18 x 3/4" hex head bolts, eight steel washers, and four locknuts, allowing for free pivoting.
    • Hard-Sided Doors: Gas shocks are installed to factory ball studs on side frames and doors, with the small piston end towards the door.
    • Safety Warning: Do not drive with doors open. Ensure doors are closed and properly latched when driving.
  • Turn Signal Lights: Re-installed to the welded bracket on the back side of the side frames. Supplied wires are connected to existing wiring underneath the fender.
  • Windshield Wiper: Installed per the instructions included with the wiper kit (standard with hard-sided cab).

Finishing Touches:

  • Protective film is peeled from windows.
  • Supplied nut covers (20 qty.) are installed on interior locknuts.

Maintenance Features

  • Lubrication: Once doors are adjusted, grease should be applied to striker bolts and door latch assemblies, and re-applied periodically. This also applies to door pin hinges.
  • Hardware Check: All hardware should be checked and tightened after 40 hours of operation, then periodically inspected and tightened for the remainder of the unit's life.
  • Cleaning:
    • Painted surfaces should be washed with commercial automotive cleaning products.
    • Windows should be cleaned with glass cleaner.
    • Vinyl components should be washed with a mild solution of warm soapy water.
    • Clear vinyl can be easily scratched. Caution should be used when cleaning frost or snow from the rear curtain. Do not roll the curtain in cold weather as it may stiffen and crack. Keep the curtain clean.
