display
units

decoder-
drivers

be
detected
easily
by
observa
tion
and
analysis
of
improper
visual
dis
plays.
For
example,
if
a
non-numeric
character
appears
on
only
one
digit,
it
is
probable
that
the
fault
is
in
that
digit
or
its
single
decoder-driver
circuit.
If,
on
the
other
hand,
the
same
non-numeric
character
appears
in
a
group
of
digits,
it
is
probable
that
the
fault
is
in
the
de
coder-driver
and
associated
scanning
cir
cuitry.
4.3
TEST
EQUIPMENT
Measuring
instruments
and
test
standards
with
performance
specifications
as
listed
in
Table
4-1
should
be
used
in
the
proce
dures
as
described
in
the
paragraphs
that
follow.
4.4
OVERALL
SYSTEM
PERFORMANCE
CHECK
4.4.1
General
This
test
sequence
confirms
the
opera-
bility
of
the
instrument in
each
of
its
four
measuring
modes.
It
checks
the
per
formance
accuracy
only
to
a
wide
toler
ance.
If
any
one
of
these
tests
yields
an
incorrect
result,
or
if
a
subsequent
test
with
accurately
known
inputs
re
sults
in
a
Counter
error,
proceed
to
Paragraph
4.5,
and
perform
the
tests
described
therein
and
in
subsequent
paragraphs.
4.4.2
Set-Up
Use
a
coupling
capacitor
of
about
.OluF,
IKV
to
introduce
a
60Hz
input
to
the
Model
5740
input,
position
ATTEN
switch
to
X20,
and
operate
the
instrument
as
shown
in
Table
4-2.
