The Purpose of This Step
To explain the currently available methods of creating tinted or black and white prints
from grayscale or RGB images.
The Long Answer
Historic Tinted Black and White
Black and white photographs were created by numerous methods, many of which
produced images with unique color tints; most notably Sepia. Even neutral gray prints
from silver geletin processes could be tinted after completion by soaking the images in
various chemicals. Certain tints effected the entire image, others were more noticable
in the highlights, while others effected the darker tones. Multiple tints used on the
same image are called cross-tints. Inkjet black and white printing often attempts to
produce these types of results using differing methods.
