Chapter 2
Site Preparation and Installation
This section provides instructions on preparation of the checkstand for scanner or scanning-
scale installation. It also specifies physical parameters, power and ventilation considerations,
cable routing information and unit installation.
The guidelines that follow, titled
Checkstand Preparation, present specifics for models
available at the time of this writing.
Some models are designed to fit with little or no modification into openings cut for previously
installed
scanners such as other Magellan
TM
scanners, or NCR
®
scanner models 7874/5/6/7/8.
Other models are designed for applications with smaller footprint requirements. See
Figure 8
for models available at the time of this printing.
Additionally, a Top Down Reader (TDR) module (
Figure 7) can be optionally included with a
scanner for installation. A TDR is purchased in one of two heights (tall or short) to allow
flexibility of installation.
Once the procedures in this section are complete, the scanner is ready for operation, excepting
that
if a scanning-scale was installed, calibration will be required before placing the unit into
operation. You must consult the local weights and measures authority to ensure that all legal
requirements are met concerning calibration and certification.

Procedures
