Overview

This document describes the De'Longhi DDX2 Series Dehumidifier, a household appliance designed to remove excess moisture from the air and prevent damage caused by condensation.

Function Description:

The primary function of the De'Longhi DDX2 Series Dehumidifier is to reduce the relative humidity in a room. Air naturally contains water vapor, and the amount it can hold increases with temperature. When temperatures drop, this vapor condenses on colder surfaces like windows and walls. The dehumidifier works by collecting this excess moisture, thereby preventing condensation and its associated problems. Experts recommend maintaining relative humidity between 40% and 60% for optimal well-being and home conditions. The appliance can significantly increase its dehumidifying power when the room is minimally heated, as heating causes condensed water vapor on cold surfaces to evaporate into the air, making it available for collection by the dehumidifier. The air discharged by the dehumidifier is typically about 1°C warmer than the ambient temperature.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Supply Voltage: 115 V~60 Hz (as indicated on the rating plate)
  • Absorbed Power: (See rating plate)
  • Maximum Power Input: (See rating plate)
  • Freeze Protection Device: Yes
  • Hygrometer: Yes
  • Fan Speeds: 2 (MIN/MAX)
  • Air Filter: Yes
  • Operating Limits (Temperature): 41°F - 89.6°F (5°C - 32°C)
  • Operating Limits (Relative Humidity): 30-90%
  • Refrigerant Gases: R410A (GWP=2088) and R134a (GWP=1430), complying with EC environmental regulations. The refrigerant circuit should not be perforated.
  • Pump System (on pump models): Allows water removal up to 13 ft (4m) in height for continuous draining.

Usage Features:

The dehumidifier offers several modes and controls for user convenience:

  • Control Panel: Features ON/STAND-BY button, Fan speed button, Room temperature button (°F/°C), Humidity increase/decrease buttons (+/-), Timer button, and Pump button (on some models).
  • Dehumidifying Mode: The display shows both the current room humidity and the desired humidity level. Users can adjust the desired humidity from 30% (dry environment) to 80% (humid environment) in 5% increments using the +/- buttons. Fan speed can be set to MIN or MAX. When the desired humidity is reached, the appliance stops dehumidifying but the fan continues at minimum speed. It resumes operation when humidity rises above the set point.
  • Continuous Dehumidifying Function: Activated by pressing the "-" button until the display shows "--". In this mode, the appliance operates continuously, which is particularly useful for rapidly drying laundry.
  • Temperature Display: Pressing the thermometer button temporarily displays the room temperature in both Fahrenheit and Celsius.
  • Timer Function: Allows programming a delayed start or stop for the appliance. The timer can be set from 0.5 to 24 hours, with increments of 30 minutes for 0-10 hours and 1 hour for 10-24 hours. Once the timer is set, humidity levels cannot be adjusted.
  • Water Tank: Features a water level viewing window. When the tank is full, improperly positioned, or missing, a warning light blinks, and an alarm sounds until the tank is emptied or correctly positioned.
  • Drainage Options:
    • Draining into the tank: Condensate collects in an easily removable tank. When full, the tank must be emptied manually.
    • Continuous external draining: For long periods of operation without regular tank emptying, a continuous drain hose (8) can be connected to the back of the unit. The hose end must not be higher than the spout, and there should be no kinks.
    • Continuous draining using the pump (on pump models): A condensation discharge tube (9) connects to a pipe on the lower front part of the unit, allowing water to be pumped up to 13 ft (4m) to a drain. If the hose is missing or the pump is on, the "PUMP" symbol blinks.
  • Defrosting Indicator: When ambient temperature is below 59°F (15°C), the appliance performs defrosting cycles. The defrosting symbol illuminates during this process. After being turned off, the unit requires 3 minutes before it can function again.
  • Automatic Restart: When the appliance is switched on or electricity is restored, it will start working in the previously selected mode.

Maintenance Features:

Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial for optimal performance and longevity.

  • Safety First: Always unplug the appliance before any cleaning or maintenance. Never wash the dehumidifier with a jet of water.
  • Cleaning the Cabinet: Use a damp cloth to clean the appliance, then dry with a dry cloth. Avoid using petrol, alcohol, solvents, liquid insecticides, or similar products, as these can deform the plastic.
  • Cleaning the Air Filter (and optional Silver-Ion/Carbon Filters): Dirty filters compromise air circulation and reduce dehumidifying and air purifying efficiency. Filters should be cleaned regularly, ideally once a week for constant use.
    • To remove: Pull the filters down (as shown in Fig. 7).
    • To clean: Use a vacuum cleaner to remove dust. For very dirty filters, rinse with lukewarm water (not exceeding 40°C). Allow them to dry completely before reinserting.
    • Carbon Filter: Has an efficiency lifespan of one year.
    • Silver-Ion Air Filter (if fitted): Helps capture dust and pollen and reduces bacteria and mold growth.
  • Storage for Long Periods:
    • Unplug the appliance and empty the tank.
    • Clean and reposition the filter.
    • Cover the appliance with a plastic bag to protect it from dust.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a troubleshooting guide to help resolve common issues before contacting a service center, such as blocked filters, low room temperature/humidity, full/misplaced tank, or pump problems.
  • Repairs: In case of malfunction, do not attempt to repair it yourself. Turn off the appliance, unplug it, and contact an authorized Service Center. Always insist on original spare parts. Unauthorized repairs can be dangerous and invalidate the warranty.
  • Disposal: At the end of its service life, the dehumidifier must be disposed of at a suitable collection center. Packaging materials are recyclable and should be disposed of in differentiated waste collection containers.
