Overview

Retractable Cord Reel

This document provides instructions for the Retractable Cord Reel, a device designed to manage and store electrical cords efficiently.

Function Description

The Retractable Cord Reel is an electrical accessory that allows for the convenient extension and retraction of a power cord. It helps keep cords organized, prevents tangles, and reduces the risk of tripping hazards. The reel features a mechanism that allows the cord to be pulled out to a desired length and then automatically retracts it when no longer needed, often with a clicking noise indicating the locking and rewinding action. It is designed for use with grounded outlets.

Usage Features

Installation:

  1. Mounting Location: Check the wall or ceiling surface to ensure it can support the weight of the Retractable Reel and the additional force when pulling on the cord. Drywall will not hold the weight of the cord reel; it is necessary to locate a ceiling joist or wall stud for mounting.
  2. Outlet Proximity: Select a mounting location within 4 feet of an electrical outlet.
  3. Template Use: Locate a wall or ceiling beam (use a stud finder if needed) and use the mounting bracket as a template. Mark the holes so they are centered on the beam.
  4. Securing the Bracket: Attach the mounting bracket to the beam using cement screws or wood screws.
  5. Attaching the Reel: Slide the mounting bracket of the cord reel into the separate bracket as shown in the diagrams. Ensure the reel is securely attached.
  6. Final Adjustment: Adjust the cord stopper to a suitable position when required.
  7. Power Connection: Plug the lead-in cord into the grounded outlet.

Operation:

  1. Plug-in: Plug the lead-in cord into the grounded outlet.
  2. Extension: Pull the cord out to the desired length. A clicking noise indicates the cord is locking. The cord will stay at the desired length during the clicking and rewind after a pull past the clicking noise.
  3. Retraction: To retract, pull the cord out and guide it slowly back into the reel.

Important Notes for Usage:

  • Grounding: Always plug the retractable reel from its electrical outlet before performing any maintenance or changing accessories.
  • Disassembly: Do not disassemble the body of the reel.
  • Children: Children are not allowed to use the cord reel.
  • Environmental Conditions: Do not connect any devices which may exceed the maximum ratings of this cord reel.
  • Moisture: Do not plug it in when your hands are wet or damp.
  • Mounting: Never attempt to plug the cord reel into a non-grounded outlet.
  • Pulling the Cord: When pulling the cord from the cord reel, grasp the reel's cord itself, not the device or tool that the cord is plugged into.
  • Retraction Speed: Do not allow the cable to retract without restraining the retraction speed as damage or injury may occur from excessive rewind speed.
  • Inspection: Inspect before every use; do not use if parts are loose or damaged or if insulation is worn.
